A pretty good investment! Amazing!
The £40 holder in Glamorgan did ok on a much smaller scale too, with a £5K win on a £5 bond bought in 1982!0 -
Hi guys,
Just need a little bit of advice.
I have £500 of PB that i purchased in august and i am looking to purchase another £29,500 in the next few weeks.
Would i be better buying blocks of PB rather than a whole block of 29,500? I was thinking of buying blocks of around £5000 or £10000 just to spread the numbers out a bit?
Cheers. :money:0 -
If you were to buy £25,000, you would get 5x £5000 bonds anyway....they just break up the smaller ammounts the way they best see fit...so if you did the full amount that you want with the extra £4500, it would probably be issued to you as 4x £1000 bonds and a single £500.
Its pretty straight forward.
I would suggest however that you make the payment by cheque in a post office over the counter around the 30th/31st weekdays of the end of this October month rather than the next couple of weeks, you'll get a stamped receipt etc and have the peace of mind its gone through okay.
That way, by paying by cheque in true MSE saving fashion, you get the maximum interest of your money in the bank until the month end since cheques will take a couple of days to clear too!
The purchase will be classed as this October and only enter the actual prize winning draw in December since they do not enter the draw for one complete calendar month - so there really is little point doing so until month end.
I dont think £10,000 boonds are issued, £5000 is the max size...
Hope that helps somewhat...Beware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0 -

Another question,
Instead of using a cheque, could i just buy online through my debit card? Or is there a reason for using a cheque rather than any other payment type?0 -
Re-read my post, I outlined why using a cheque over the counter is better quite clearly!!
You could do it via card, but, do you frequently make transactions of £29,500 on a debit card? If thats your spending pattern generally, it would be okay I guess!
Chances are if not, then your bank would query that one and you would have problems completing the transaction online. Plus its a large ammount - do it over the counter face to face, walk away with a receipt....just safer...plus you gain money by getting a few days extra interest with the money in the bank as the cheque takes time to clear...
Your call though...Good luck for December!Beware Lego Men with Deep pockets...! :cool:0
