No win for my wife or myself this month. First time in ages this hasS happened.

Same with us. First time we've had a blank month since Feb 22. I did pick up a £500 prize last month though.

Which isn't really a surprise - based on the current odds, a £100 holding should win a prize about every 18 years, but the odds and returns have been significantly worse over much of that period.

Lady luck is always hard to fathom. I had a £10,000 holding for about 2 years and won £125 in that time. I then reduced it to £5k and won nothing for a year so reduced it to £1k.

Needless to say I won nowt for 2 years. Then this October I bumped it up to £6k and won £50 this month.

I assumed it was from the new £5k holding, but no, it was on the £1,000 holding that had been there for the whole 5 years.

It is hard to believe that my new luck was nothing to do with increasing my holding from £1k to £6k.
The question is would you have won if you hadn't increased?

The facts are clear that I won with a bond purchased before I increased my holding.

It is also true that nobody can answer your question.
  • i want to cash in some premium bonds, but want to hold them for January’s draw.
What would be the earliest date in January that I can notify NS&I to sell them?

I would personally wait until after the drawer results have been announced, and you've confirmed you haven't won anything on the bonds you want to cash in. Though others may know of an actual date cut-off

When cashing in bonds, there is an option to cash in the bonds after the next draw. Though I have never used this option, I will probably try it out for the January draw.
