unsuitable housing

Cindy. You may find that it is not as bad as you think. My sister had her house re possessed and was given temp housing, in a flat over 2 floors, no garden, and in a reputedly rough area. Actually she enjoyed being off the ground and would have been quite happy to stay there. Also the area was not nearly as bad as was painted.
I come from Surrey originally and 36 years ago was on the list for a council house. I would have still been on it most likely if I hadn't taken the option to move to a new town. This was Up North to me (Bletchley) and I spent 7 happy years there. Buying a house a year after we moved to our council house as they were so much chepaer than Surrey. I am now even further up north, but wouldn't go back if you paid me.
I was followed by my mum and my sister.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Unfortunately if as another poster has said, you will have to wait years to get a house in a 'good' area. Best to take the one in a worse area, to motivate you to move up.
Was that a reply to my post?
If so then you totally missed the point. The problem is even though on paper the council/housing association is cheaper in rent per month than private. The problem is you pay for moving to a 'worse' area in other ways. When you add replacement car, excess, higher car insurance premiums, higher home contents insurance premiums, alarm system, monthly fee for said alarm system and loss of no claims it soon costs far more than renting private in a good area. Then on top of that you can't do things like walk to the pub or take a walk in the park, etc. - due to the chance of mugging/rape/murder. I've never lived in London so I can't comment on any local estates there but I have lived in over 10 towns and cities across England and rough estates seem to be the same nationwide. The one local to me now gets in the local paper each week with at least one murder a week, every week for the past 2 years. Moving to a 'bad' estate is a 'bad' idea hence the term 'bad'0 -
A letter from your doctor might be the way to go. Say a bad area will make you depressed for something.0
