unsuitable housing

i have been in temporary social housing for 9 years, including B & B's and private accom through the council.
if you were struggling, why have 2 more children 3 is greater than 2.4.
Wouldn't it be wise to stop having kids and sort of the finances for the ones you got?
Back on topic though, I'd say you take what you can get some people wait ages for council accomodation.. its not meant to be easy otherwise everyone would go for social housing.
If you bothered about the quality of housing, do what my fathers generation did, work overtime, work 2nd jobs, find new ways to MAKE the money to get a rented property you like on the open market. Or if its too much to rent there, do your family a favour and move away for their sake. Bringing kids up in bad areas is not the best way to give them a good start.
You can't expect things on a plate, people need to work hard to get the things they want in life and i guess the same applies with housing, alot of social housing is probably in bad areas due to the nature of social housing.. being for the those poor peopl ...but also a few bad 'uns like druggies and the like.0 -
Much sympathy - we had problems with housing when our kids were smaller. Cd u talk to Citzens' Advice to see whether y've any other options? It sounds most unsuitable with the stairs & u need to avoid getting an injury moving the pushchair & kids around.
Also, just a reminder, u get more rights with Council than with a HousingAssoc.:A0 -
Really sorry to hear of your predicament, My sister is in a similar one, but is unable to move - funnily enough, if she had another child, she would get a house no problem.
Make sure you question the housing officer as to WHY you are being offered flats 4 floors up in buildings with no lift (and make sure you make it look even more exhausing when dragging that buggy up all the stairs when you view!);)
Unfortunately, if it's your 3rd offer, it seems you have no choice but to accept it for now, and work on a transfer afterwards.
Do you have long left to study? Just wondering if it's long till you're working and can choose your own place.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Sad fact of life I am afraid - and I have to say I get annoyed with people hassling their doctor with 'depression' because they don't like the property the council has offered.
I lived in a 2 bed tower block in a very rough area with two young children - and was on the 17th floor. Yes, it had a lift but more often than not it wasn't working. We lived there for 7 years and coped with it.
Accept the flat, make the best of it and work towards getting a mortgage and getting out. When you do move, you will appreciate your new home all the more.0 -
If it was perfect then no new houses would come available because everyone would stay there for life.... cushy life, cheap rent, easy life.
Its meant to be temporary isn't it? Not going to be the hilton
. I'd be happy that i had a roof over my head, and would work towards giving my kids a good life, thats what life is about.. making the best you can for your kids and enjoying it along the way. 0 -
Although I do feel for you and I wouldn't want to be in your position, I do question how you complain when you have 3 kids and neither parent works? I would love to study but I simply cannot give my son a decent lifestyle if I was to do so, so I go out to work. My choice.0

Thats a bloody good point, re=reading post sounds cheeky... and she been in temp housing 9 years. How can you not use contraception... if you cant afford to have more childnre.. surely you'd know how costly kids were.

i am getting really really tired of the confrontational attitude to people in social housing. you can make your point without sticking the knife in and posting cheap insults. plenty of people have made suggestions politely.Thats a bloody good point, re=reading post sounds cheeky... and she been in temp housing 9 years. i think it's a very sad state when manners (which are incidentally free!) are thrown out the window. as far as contructive help goes, your post seems of very little use - we're not on the housing board now - people are much nicer to each other over on this board!:happyhear0 -

why dont you go and ask for a thread for 'no hopers with NO advice to give' to be started, im sure youll be top of the class in that one, and leave those ppl alone who are posting, even if they dont or arnt in your class, your own posts are hard to read, so before you criticise, try making sure youre as perfect as you try to make others think
