I rushed back from Chester to Manchester with eager anticipation, just to get a 'phone call from the Eastlands store saying they couldn't deliver and my shopping would be delivered "...between 6pm and 10pm". This meant, my fridge being bare, unwilling husband being dispatched to local corner shop to provision a meal.
About 9.50pm we received a call off the delivery driver, they were "10 minutes away" then we got a call because they were "lost". My shopping finally arrived at 10:25pm. Some of it was clearly not mine, so I handed it back to the driver. Most of my food shopping was marked "unavailable" including such rare items as chicken, beef mince, melon... Some items just didn't arrive. I have tried calling the store, but they are clearly tucked up in their beds, which is where I should be.
I despair...

Hi Trolleydash - please update us on what happened with your shopping this week. Mine also comes from Eastlands but apart from a couple of late deliveries I've not had any problems, perhaps I should start worrying though???0

Hi Trolleydash - please update us on what happened with your shopping this week. Mine also comes from Eastlands but apart from a couple of late deliveries I've not had any problems, perhaps I should start worrying though???
Thanks for asking.
After last week's episode, husband 'phoned the Customer Helpline... They were "very sorry" in a [Grade 3] empathetic and sympathetic tone which they reserve for severely or repetitively let down customers. They duly reimbursed me for the short dated ready meal (I lost the recipe for toast long ago). We complained about the main line unavailable items, like chicken, mince, melon, nappies, and they suggested that wasn't really acceptable that the store had insufficient stock of these things. Customer Helpline said that the store would contact me directly regarding the missing stuff, misappropriated shopping and late delivery (they didn't call, incidentally), but a £10 e-voucher magically appeared.
However, yesterday's shop didn't show much promise of improvement. ASDA pull-up nappies were still "unavailable" for the third week running. However, promisingly standard-type substitutes were sent. Quite how I am meant to shoehorn a Size 5 girl into the Size 4 nappies they sent is a problem, unless a strict "double zero" diet is imposed... Two more ready meals were sent, both "use by" today, and one very squashed walnut cake, which was so squished you couldn't even make a decent trifle with it - suggestions please! I wasn't exaggerating, it was so flat I could have passed it off to the Mother-in-law as "home made," the only difference being that home made doesn't have buttercream in the middle.
The delivery driver got worryingly lost again (Haven't they heard of SatNav or maps?) and he claimed (via the entryphone) that he couldn't manage the communal door on his own... Funny, I manage it frequently with a pram and a brat on reins. They will be asking me to hold their hands when they cross the road, next.
Customer Helpline are still "very sorry" about the damaged and short dated items and will reimburse the cost to my card. I am bored of general incompetence evident at ASDA Eastlands and I am genuinely bored of complaining.
I am shopping for a BBQ next weekend as it is No.1 [strike]brat's[/strike] infant's birthday - You're all invited. I have written on the order that it is for a BBQ party and that all items need to be "use by" after 18th. My "Mystic Meg" second sense predicts out of date rolls, beef mince "unavailable" and leeks substituted for Spanish onions. Hence, I think I have left enough time to go and do the shopping myself, if all goes to pot. So if you see me dragging myself and the sorry-looking monsters round the Eastlands store you will know what happened...
On a brighter note, we have sold our bullet ridden, razor-wired apartment in Manchester and are trading in our flak jackets for sun hats and returning once more to sunny Chester. (Seriously, Manchester isn't AT ALL as bad as some would have you believe, but it is fair to say that it precipitates copiously). ASDA Eastlands will be a dim and distant [strike]memory[/strike] nightmare. However, anyone who knows the Home Shopping service working out of ASDA's store at Ellesmere Port, knows I am in the process of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire!
Best wishes, TD.0 -
