I have always had a thing about buttons. My gran had an old ham bag filled with them. buttons from WW1 and WW2 uniforms, shirt buttons, shaped ones, etc etc

I've always kept my collection (mostly inherrited from my gran) in glass jars to look pretty. i recently though I got a flash of inspiration, bought an ugly brown 1970s teapot from a charity shop, painted it white then glued on all the white/cream/mother of pearl buttons from my collection onto it. It now is a pot plant pot n our bedroom window sill with trailing ivy comign out of it. Looks very pretty and romantic and bohemian.

Hi there, You could use them to fill up old fashioned bean bags we used as children. Just cut up old sheets ect to 6 inch squares and stich all round.

You could jazz up plain cardies with toning assorted buttons, the same sort of thing costs a fortune in Per Una. Or call them "vintage" and sell them on E Bay for a few pounds.

ooh i have to agree with home made cards, im big on the crafs front and you can never have enough! you could always take them down to your local hab if you havent used them already someone will find a use!!

If you have the time, and patience, make some cushions or give your old ones a lease of life, will always look orignal, and you can make all sorts of patterns and designs. EXPERIMENT!! :)

Stick a button under the end of a cellotape roll. That way you will always find it immediately and and not waste any. This is the far end of stinginess lol, but still. ;)

    Reading this brings back memories!

My grandma had a walkers shortbread tin full of buttons and it was a great teaching aid. Some were shaped and I would make up stories, she used to ask me to sort certain colours and things too and they are good for counting, they have a nice feel for little hands!

They're great for making things for dollshouses - plates, lids decorating furniture - all sorts of things. :)
