SIL has taken my DS out for the day as i looked after her son yesterday while she was at work so lovely and peaceful here, and the sun is beaming so 2 loads of washing done and on the line :T

I have a bit of a moral dilema - nephews birthday party tommorow and my brother was supposed to be picking our mum up to take her to the party. SIL has since told my mum to get the bus to their house and then they can all go to the party (in community center) leaving from their house (easier for them). I live 2 streets away from SIL and we both stay 8 miles from mum. SIL wanted me to pick up mum but i said 'no' it's your party! SIL says it a 16 mile round trip to pick up mum to which i replied 'well it was ok when you wanted me to do the driving' Feel bad that nobody is picking mum up and she will have to make her own way there. Also know that mum will not be happy and there may be an 'atmosphere' at the party :o

    Do i . . . . . .

    1) Ring brother and TELL him to pick up mum?
    2) Pick up mum myself?
    3) Try to stay out of it and avoid the fallout at all costs?

    What do you think???????????????????????????????

michelle - your post really made me laugh. i'm good at telling other people to slow down but never listen to my own words of wisdom. you say you've not done much and then your list is about 15 pages long. you've done loads so put your feet up! i will if you do! xx

    your on!!! ;)

Although i have just had a realisation to myself that i am going away on Friday till Tuesday to visit the in-laws, and i seriously have nothing to wear. And not just slobbing either - kiddies party on Saturday, Adults 60th birthday meal on Sunday, and then trip to the theatre on monday night while ILs babysit. So i really need to wash between bouts of sitting. Have just got the first lot on, and a couple of things are in soaking while we speak. The kettle has just boiled if anyone wants one.

best also do some woolies as ILs house is usually freezing and i am feeling it at the moment.

Will also need to reassemble the airers, and fill them as each WM load finishes, so realistically, i can probably fit in a couple of hours of lounging in the 3 hours till i pick up DS.

Is that ok mudbath? ;) Best eat something in that time as well that isn't full of sugar, and won't aggravate my mouth ulcers anymore.

Gunsandbanjos My mum is a very mobile 59 yo, but it is ALWAYS me who does the running about after everyone and i do get annoyed about it sometimes! I get on ok with SIL mainly but she does kinda have an 'only for herself' attitude and she very much suits herself. If it doesnt suit her she doesnt do it! I cant be quite that assertive when it comes to family!

I am very tempted to stand my ground this time and see what happens!

Surely if there is a bus route your mum can get there herself if she is only 59.
My mum's 71 and she regularly travels 35 miles to London and 90 miles to Suffolk using public transport. She also often flies with a friend in a light aircraft to France.
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.
