Should I switch from BT?

Up until now I have used a BT Together plan that is no longer available to new users. It's BT Together Local calls option which for £4.50 extra each month gives me local calls free during weekends and evenings. I do not spend enough on national calls to warrant BT Together 2 at an extra £6pm and nowhere near enough to warrant BT Together 3 as I'm at work during the day and my two sons are at uni ( living at home ) during term time. They have been warned not to make many, long daytime calls and tend not to, although they might if calls were free/cheaper.
There is now no such thing as local and national calls, if called from a landline to a landline begining 01/02 they cost the same no matter from where to where they are calledDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

This is true having now looked closely at BT's pricing.
However for my circumstances, my Local calls option is £4pm extra ( not £4.50 as I had said previously ) and this tarriff is no longer available probably because of all calls being priced the same now. However the equivalent tarriff is now £6pm extra.0 -

Make sure you keep your line rental with BT.
Join a CPS provider - Tele2 are doing free evening and weekend calls at the moment.
Join 18866 for your daytime calls which aren't free on Tele2 as 18866 charge only 2p per call - they are very reliable. You may want to add 1899 for certain other calls.
Do BT not mind you keeping their line rental but going elsewhere for your calls? I mean i'm with BT and want to migrate my internet to another company, i also want to migrate my calls to 18866 but keep BTs line rental so how does it work?
Do i have to have my BT line disconnected?0 -
BT have no option but to allow you to take your calls elsewhere as they have/had a monopoly on the phone service.
What you do is tell BT you want BT Together Option 1 and that you will pay only money owed by direct debit. This is in effect line rental only at £10.50pm.
You then sign up for call18866. Each time you make a call you have to prefix that call with 18866. This is the only awkward part and you may prefer to buy a dialler from Orchid. There's a big thread on this in the forum.0 -

You don't need to have your BT line disconnected all you are doing is putting your calls through another supplier as suggested here for evening and w/ends and the daytime, mobile and international calls through 18866 and/or 1899
By keeping your line rental with BT this gives you more choice of internet supplier too0 -
So i can sign up with 18866 and migrate my BT internet with another company and BT only will charge me for my line rental? Is that right?0

Yes
Go and sign up now for https://www.call18866.co.uk and you can be using it within half an hour0 -
Oh and while you are deciding, if you are option1 with BT then ring them up to go to option2 for free for 3 months... this will give you free weekend and evening calls for no extra charge... gives you more breathing space to decide on your options...

Sorry to sound dim, but do i have to contact BT first or not :rolleyes:0 -
You're not sounding dim, its just that we all know how to use it etc so we aren't explaining it properly
call18866 is an internet based company where you sign up online, all bills are available online etc and you have to use the number 18866 before you dial the number you want. Should you be phoning your next door neighbour for instance you still need to use the area dial code.
This means you will bypass BT and all calls phoned using 18866 will go onto the 18866 bill and not your BT bill.
HTH and just ask away, everyone seems to be sorting out their telephone charges today0
