I also do leek and potato soup that is green because I use all of the leek and watercress soup when it's cheap enough. I make it like freya'smum and then swirl in cream when it's in bowls.

Yesterday we had roast veg and I did some seperate which I made into a soup tonight - it was yummy!

Anyway, I am well into wanting to make more soups - cheaply mind. Also, I have a packet of spagetti pasta which is thin and breaks easily - I would like to put this in a spicy soup

    Thanks

My most favourite soup is chicken made with chicken leftovers and stock. I put in either rice or pearl barley, onion, grated carrot, and plenty of seasoning as the rice/barley absorbs a lot. Then top with fresh parsley. Yummy and simple. Real comfort food.

  • our fave is lentil and bacon think theres prob a recipe or two in the index on here already so won't post another, On Saturday I threw together a new one, Split Pea & Tomato soup. We liked this very much so it will be a regular on the menu from now on

here it is roughly as I did it.I forgot to skin the peppers and OH said they were like little spikes but I never noticed :o

    Split Pea & Tomato soup
4oz yellow split peas (pre soaked)
tin of plum toms, (pushed through a seive to remove skins and seeds)
good handful of mixed peppers de-seeded and chopped, remove skins too if possible fusspots will being dining ;)
    small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic chopped, minced or crushed whatever
nice handful of chives snipped up
a large carrot finely chopped or grated
    a good shake of paprika
a tiny shake of chilli powder
about a pint of chicken or veg stock

Gently cook onions, peppers, chives and garlic in a little bit of oil until soft.
Add the chilli and paprika, then the carrots & cook for another minute or so.
Stir in the sieved toms and split peas then add the stock.
Simmer for about 40 mins until peas are good & soft, allow to cool then blitz in food processor. It really is lovely, good tomato flavour with just a hint of spice and heat to make it warming and extra tasty. :D
