    Hi
I've developed a physical disability over the last 2 years and have no idea what you are talking about regarding money off from British Gas. My Gas and Electricity is with them and both are on pre-payment meters. Can you enlighten me what this discount is please?
I would love to cut my costs!

    Many thanks
If you receive certain benefits you can go on the Essentials tariff which means that you only pay the lowest standard rate (direct debit rate) instead of the prepayment rate which is higher.
You can ring the Essentials helpline on 0845 850 2207, there's a pre-recorded message listing the benefits that qualify.

British Gas also have a Home Energy Care Register for the disabled, elderly & chronically sick.

I've also just found something called a Winter Warmer package for people in receipt of pension credit, attendance allowance & Disability allowance. I'm going to give them a ring on Tuesday for their information pack, I've had a look on their website but can't find anything about it. Why don't they advertise these things?

I think with EDF you can get Energy Assist if you receive Income support but I couldn't really find any details about it on their website other than this:
http://www.edfenergy.com/oursocialcommitments/customers.html so it may be best to give them a ring and ask.

You may be able to sign up for their Priority Service, you can download the booklet here:

The BBC site has a list of the main suppliers who offer assistance or reduced rates for "vulnerable" customers.

Also quite a few theme parks or attractions have a reduced price for the disabled or let you have free entry for a carer, if you're going to visit somewhere it's worth having a look on their website (if they've got one). For example it costs £14.95 each to visit Lightwater Valley in the summer but it's only £8.50 each for a disabled person and up to 2 carers. I think most of the big attractions have some sort of concessionary prices.

Free national bus travel in Scotland, apply for national entitlement card (plus carer if applicable).

I just checked the CEA website for the cinema pass and entered my postcode in Manchester. It brought up 2 participating cinemas that I would never use...to far for me. However, underneath there is a list of participating national chains. One of them was the AMC in Manchester which I would love to be able to use. I am confused whether this is a participating cinema for the pass or whether you can just pick up an application there.

If anyone knows I would be most grateful.

    Thanks

Regarding the CEA pass, I used to work at a cinema and you dont need to pay to get a card, most cinema chains do their own version for free! you need to take proof of disability and a photo I think. At our cinema we even took the photo and made you card on the spot! it entitled one carer per disabled person in free, the disabled person pays normal rate ( unless hte cinema gives a reduced rate to people on benefits or the person is an oap) I worked at ugc which is now cineworld.
November £10 a day challenge. Im starting early- 66p so far!

I don't know how I found out the british gas discount but I called them & now I get the discount.

Theatre`s and theme parks also allow carers in free but you must phone and arrange. I work in the care industry and we even take people to footbasll matches were carers get in free. You would be surprised what a phone call can acheive.
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about football matches. I know at Newcastle a disabled ticket to see a category A game costs £12, a ticket normally costs between £26 - £50 depending on where you sit!
