  • I think if it is genuine like some people insist then it must be a wrong number thats all i can think of.

www.natwest.com is the real natwest site.
Anything following this (e.g. /paybycard) is part of same site.

Hi just notice this the missed calls were from 9015 but in the text it said to phone 9014 and quote a reference
And you think it's just a complete, total coincidence that someone sends you a text asking you to ring 9014 and then NatWest ring you three times, on the same number, from 9015?

You asked if it was a scam, you've been assured, even by a bank employee that it isn't, yet you have decided for yourself that it's a scam. Why ask in the first place?

Perhaps you should try the link in the first post, and go to the make a payment part, you will find that the security lock at the bottom of the page is crossed out ( partially secure).perhaps the NatWest Employee could explain that ????

    • Step 2: Check for 'https' and the lock. Genuine secure sites have addresses that start with 'https' and display a padlock icon in the bottom section of your internet browser.
    • Step 3: Double click that lock. Double clicking the lock icon that appears in the bottom section of your internet browser brings up information about the lock that can help you confirm that the site is genuine. If the lock is not within its valid dates or has been issued to a website that you do not recognise, do not enter your security details and call us at 0845 605 0789.
So i doubled clicked the lock on the payment page, at the bottom of the certificate it quite clearly says..
    connection partially encrypted
parts of the page you are viewing were not encrypted before being transmitted over the internet.
information sent over the internet without encryption can be seen by other people whilst in transit...

I always thought that any part of online banking including accounts or setting up a payment was completely secure

these fraudsters are very very good , i got an email that took me to a site that was so so convincing as the log in page for BOS and Halifax , it didnt fool me because the http address was strange looking but i have no doubt it could fool others
so just because the phone number is SIMILAR doesnt mean the OP has to think it probably IS natwest
Caution is GOOD in these circumstances

This is fascinating. The site is a Natwest site, the number appears to be a Natwest number, but there's just something wrong about this that I can't put my finger on - especially the website. It just seems too direct and geared specifically to take money with no other options. It's almost as if a scam is hosted on Natwest's proper site/server.... maybe they give a real Natwest number in the hope that people will be able to confirm that it's a real Natwest number and therefore will have fewer reservations about paying online?

Exactly no explanation at all just quote the reference pay the money its not exactly proper bank practice is it? also contact by text message seems so unprofessional especially with regards to debt.

Anyway it is genuine i phoned the number the natwest gave me for collections and it turns out it is a genuine collections case and the reference number is in regards of an about to be defaulted account just not mine lol.

I thought it was a scam because A, i am in no debt at all B, the bank has never contacted me by text, its unprofessional and gave me access to anothers bank account, C, that web site looks dodgy the writing is tiny and hard to read and only partially secure. D, No explanation was given with regards to what it was about.

And just because someone says they work for doesn't mean they do. my ID could be NatWest branch manager lol and who would you be to dispute it?

I asked my question cos when it comes to money i'm cautious and wanted a second opinion.

Also i'd like to add to this comment that my opinion of the natwest has changed before this i thought they were decent and professional, but i suppose i've always managed my account well.
  • and now after getting it all sorted and asking them to take my number of that account and the guy saying he was doing it while i spoke to him. they have just sent me the exact same text they sent me in the first place
