But Im guessing its not a good idea to be covering the scalp with hydrogen peroxide just to keep the fungus at bay? I mean I know bleach is fine for mould in the bathrooms but Im kind of guessing even 3% will do nasty things to my roots - like turn them orange or make my hair break off?

You are right putting peroxide on hair bearing sites is not good! Now if you had Athlete’s foot you might try soaking your feet in water with a shot of peroxide in lots of people say it works. I only know a bit about seb. Derm because I was once given a contraceptive pill which was too high in androgens for me and once I sorted that out I stopped having it. When I did have it I used Daktarin Gold cream which has the same ingredient in it as Nizoral shampoo but you do not wash it off. Really bad cases are treated with oral diflucan. Whatever treatment you have is aimed at keeping the yeast in low enough numbers not to cause a flare up so you have to do something a couple of times a month. It is just that your skin permits the growth of certain flora.
  • Been to Boots today and bought the Nizorelle only when I got home and looked at this thread you all spell it as Nizoral so I am starting to think I've got the wrong one? Its the only one they had and it was £4.99 and it came in a silver box?

    What do you?
  • I've just looked online and from what I can gather the Nizoral has 2% of the active ingredient ketoconazole and the Nizorelle that I have bought has 1% of it? Don't know what to do now, do you think I should use it or return it?

  • Thanks Jeannie I had an awful feeling it was.. Do you think that I will be able to get a refund from Boots? They didn't have the Nizoral in my branch

Wait for Suki to come on - she may have some good advice and say whether that one be ok or not...

I'm a bit itchy on my face today - but its a different itch - more healing and the general overall look is alot calmer.

Back to work tomorrow - oh for a lottery win..............

Thats the wrong one :( Thats just a dandruff control shampoo really. It may work but I dont know and its an expensive mistake if it dont :(

Take it back and get it exchanged. Your Boots will sell Nizoral - behind the counter from the pharmacist if not with the shampoo
  • Thanks Suki I will take it back tomorrow... Trust me to get the wrong one. Oh well its no big deal as long as they exchange it and if they don't at least I can use even if its not as effective its useable so we'll see.

    Thanks again

  • Allantoin is an anti inflammatory that promotes healing and protects the skin. It comes from comfrey and is great for both dry skins and acne conditions alike. It's in quite a few non-pricey products. I have oily skin myself, and it's found in Nivea oil free lotion which I can get for about £2 in Home Bargains :) Not so good for dry skinned people though.

Thank heavens for NVQ2 beauty, eh :)
