I am new to this forum,
I am very worried as i have received a fine from Excel parking. I parked in a carpark after 8pm on a saturday evening for 79 minutes.
The letter I received said that I parked illegally on the 14th may 2011 but the 1st I knew of any charge was the letter received on 26th May 2011 stating that because I'd failed to pay the fine within 24 hours it has been increased to £60. There were no clear signs stating that there would be a fine or that CCTV was in operation and there were no barriers. I had no intention of parking illegally and I've never had a ticket before.
I work on a very tight budget and I have a young familym I really cannot afford to give £60 away. I am extremly worried about this and I really dont want it to excalate furhter.
Can anyone please offer some advice?
Thank you
Welcome to MSE. Can I put you right on a couple of matters/ It's not a "fine". it's an invoice, and secondly you did not park "illegally" . No laws were broken as this is just a civil matter.
Please do not contact the company and ignore all letters from them. You do not owe them a penny.
For further reassurance please read the "stickies" at the top of this sub-forum which explains all you need to know about private parking issues. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Thank you for your replies.
I really hope you are right. Myself and my partner are really worried about this, the biggest worry is that they said if we dont pay it will incure more costs and we'll have to pay them all.
I just want it all to just go away.0 -
There are right. Even if they somehow took you to court (they won't) they can only claim for losses, those losses would be less than a couple of pounds. Ignore them and use any letters they send you to make paper aeroplanes with0

I have since passed on the advice to friends and between us we are hundreds of pounds better off than if we had given into their intimidation and misrepresentation.0 -
Thats great news,
The article is very good!
Is there not some kind of law that stops companies from sending threatening letters and intimidating people? its not really fair that they can send nasty letters and do this.0 -
No, unless you include laws against harassment. Look on it as a game, they try their hardest to get the cash out of you and you do your best to ignore. You have the cheapest and easiest option.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Hi, i got caught by excel at Icelands supermarket on ANPR, stayed in the car park for 40 minutes. I did not leave the car at all and was always in the driving seat. I got the usual letter from them asking for £60 or £100. I've since been back to iceland to check the signage, some signs so high up lampost you cant read and at the entrance only one sign which is hiding behind bushes, coincidently if you arrive from the left had side of the entrance you can't even see a sign as you enter. I have appealed but suprise the declined them. I am prepared to defend my case in court as i never left the car un attended so does that constitute parking or waiting??
Any comments appreciated please0 -

From now on just ignore these clowns. It's as simple as that! They won't take you to court. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
