I only use them when wearing a jacket and trousers, a suit or dinner wear. I wouldn't feel dressed without one and yes, it has to be freshly pressed and folded.

It's really nice that people still use them. Dad had to have his ironed too, but then dad did all the washing and ironing at home anyway!
They seem to be a dying out though, I don't think i've seen them in a department store for years?

I use them! I bought a vintage little leather pouch to keep them in too frmo a boot sale. I got a box of brand new ones with my first initial on them from a charity shop for a pound. I keep one in my handbag just in case. They are better for the environment and I am sure they work out cheaper in the long run too - after all a little hankie takes no room in a washing machine that would be running anyway.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

Yes, we use them, as we find them kinder on the nose than tissues. There are some on the carousel drying as I type (washed last night).

We share them (not at the same time, I hasten to add):eek::eek: as I find ladies-size ones inadequate for my allergic rhinitis.;)

The best ones we've found have been from a street market in Maldegem, Belgium, and a country show at (I think) Woburn - they have a decent hem on them; a lot of the ones from dept. stores don't have a very good hem.

Mr LW irons them when he does his work shirts and Chinos on a Sunday (his office has "smart-casual" dress code) - he's always done his own ironing, and is happy to continue to do it, so who am I to argue?;)

Yes - much kinder on my nose :) And I use a napkin as well. No ironing though - fold neatly and put to the bottom of the pile, by the time they reach the top they're pretty well smoothed out.

    Hi dandy-candy,

I've added your thread to the existing one on this topic to keep the replies together.

:T Yes, we use napkins, too; we have a total of 10, so that's plenty for just the two of us - four of them were plain white when we got them (for 50p on a charity stall) so I embroidered designs in the corners so that they wouldn't get mixed up with the hankies.:D

Let's hear it for proper napiery!

  • Proper hankies, no messy stupid throw away nose rippers for sonny. And napkins too.

They are washed for nothing with the vests and y-fronts, one hankie and two napkins a week. Them paper ones cannot do that, and anyway, one decent sneeze and they re blown to pieces.
