Well my EOS400D just arrived, a day later than they said. The camera has obvioulsy been dropped as I opened up the box and took the cap off the camera (lens protector) the contents of the viewfinder fell out of the camera in pieces.

Tesco Direct CS was the usual delight - a stroppy assistant called David who would certainly win an award for lack of customer care.

In the end, I had to be refunded and make an other order. Then he told me the bag must be returned and cannot be replaced as the offer has now changed. The new order has a CF card. After a chat with his supervisor I am keeping the bag and getting the CF card. All this to be delivered again on Friday.

    Fingers crossed this time.

So for just over £300 (or just under if quidco tracks) I would rather buy this than save another £20 or so on a refurb. Particularly if you look back at some of the feedback on the 400d sales.

he he - as with any genuine bargain, if it was too easy they wouldn't sell for so much lower than the high street. Take another look at the feedback - yes there was a recent negative where a camera was received broken, yet look at all the positive reviews. Got mine for £193 - pretty good bargain for what appears to be a brand new camera with year's warranty.

Having said that, we don't want everyone knowing about the site and bidding up the prices. You're right - refurbs, too risky. Stick with the high street ;)

Very wise words indeed. The kit lens is worse than a normal compact camera, I know I have it but NEVER use it. Another lens worth looking at is the Sigma 17-70.
around £200-00. Unfortunatly this pushes up the price of the camera.

a slight exaggeration dont you think?

the lens is fine to get you started.

I agree, I have seen some high quality A3 images printed from the standard 18-55 lens, far better than any compact camera could take.

I'm sure anyone thinking of buying the Canon won't be swayed by this arguement:rotfl:

If you could be bothered to take your Canon out of the box you just might realise why you paid £400+ for it and only £70 for the Traveler 5.2 MP job.

oh come on now, thats not the best advice I've seen here (understatement of the year;))

If you want a cheap little compact under £100 there are a huge number of decent compacts available from the likes of Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Casio etc to waste time on a no-name "Value" brand from Aldi.

Aldi is good for some things, Cameras are not one of them.
