Canon EOS 400D Digital SLR with 18-55mm Lens

probably old Sigma?
the early one's were not licenced but reverse-engineered, so there were compatibility problems with most EOS digital SLR's, I have used the 35-70 Canon lens supplied with my EOS 600 (bought around 1989) on my 30D, 40D and 400D and it works fine, as do my Canon 50 f1.8 from around 1990, Canon 35-135 from 1991 and Canon 70-210 from the mid-90's.
Sorry, these were 2 original canon lens bought with my canon slr 3years ago and neither worked with the 350 or 400 so not sure why they didn't work but did have to fork out for new ones!

you may want to take a look at the Canon Outlet shop on Ebay
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/canon_uk1/
Loads of refurbished 400Ds for around £250, cheaper for the 350D. I have the 350D from them - had loads of fun with it with gorgeous pics (with the kit lens, plus a zoom lens picked up off Ebay for £45). Not sure the difference, if anything the 350D's less bulky...
Refurbished ? I've bought five things from them (cameras, printers and video camera) and they always look brand new, plus they have a one year guarantee0 -
I won one of these in December (yayyyyy)!!!!! and it is a really good camera, the photos are so crisp and clear and the one you have found seems a vg price, i would go for it if i were you.just ordered the camera case off amazon using gift vouchers reeived for doing surveys so did not cost a penny either!!!!:DA freebie a day sends a smile my way!

I agree, check out the ebay refurb store, I got my 400d for about £280, works great and the 18-55mm that came with it is also fine. Can't tell it's not new, a lot cheaper than in the shops or than I could get it for on a recent trip to NY.
I also got a 90-300mm lens from the same place, saved a good £60 and now I have two good all round lenses for what I want to do. Again can't tell that it's not new.0 -
Mine never tracked either. Should have been delivered yesterday according to the email, another day waiting in today.
So for just over £300 (or just under if quidco tracks) I would rather buy this than save another £20 or so on a refurb. Particularly if you look back at some of the feedback on the 400d sales.0 -
The D40 has an excellent lens and is considerably cheaper now with Nikons £40 cash back @ £250.
I was tempted by the Canon, tried them all and loved the Nikon and the Pentax D10 but in the end I bought a D60 at £403 including cashback.
Beware Amazon, a very cheap price but it is shipped from Luxemburg so will not be eligable for Nikons promotion.
Look at Jessops this Easter week or PurelyGadgets.co.uk.
I really reccomend a touchy feely session as if you are not used to a DSLR it is just becomes a piece of status jewelry, you don't need 10 megapix if you only print 6x4 or even A4.
You may even get better results with a decent compact like the Lumix.

I had the D40 before the 400D (I was seduced by the smaller size and weight), but the D40 doesn't really match up to the image quality of the Canon 400d. I have an A3 poster on my wall taken with the 400d when the same image taken on the Nikon D40 didnt look as good at A4. Both with their standard lens.
The D40 also has the problem that most older (read more than a year old) aren't fully compatible with the D40 as Nikon decided to remove the body autofocus motor as a cost saving.
It's a bit pointless buying an autofocus camera and then finding that the majority of lenses won't autofocus on the camera.
The 400d is worth the extra £50 over the Nikon.====0
