Obviously that cashier did it the wrong way, she/he should have never made you feel like that. There are ways of asking, I always try and turn it into a bit of a joke and make sure the customer doesn't take it personally.0 -

Its perfectly normal
when will customers learn that 1) they do not know better about security and fraud than banks 2) they dont know about money laundering better than banks and 3) moaning about trivial questions which protect you go against you
I worked in a bank and when there were unusual cash transactions it was a favourite question, if its a genuine withdrawal the person will say no bother, if it isnt the fraudster has to think and theirs normally holes in their claims etc.
You might feel your privacy is invaded but banks have privacy rules and questions like this can protect you from fraud, you'd be the first to moan if someone walked in with a dodgy id and walked out with 2.5k no questions asked0 -

well some of us have experienced bad customer service (as you do in many things)...asking me all my details in front of a queue full of people isnt very security conscious to meBring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

Well done to that cashier, did exactly what they're supposed to. On any large cash transaction we have to ask what's the purpose of the withdrawal/deposit. Except normally we don't have to ask, as the customer's so excited about the new car/kitchen/boobs they're getting that they volunteer the information before being asked! It's a legal requirement so don't throw your rattle out of the pram with Abbey, any bank would have asked.0

When I worked as a cashier I sometimes asked the customer to write the answers down for me ... might be something to consider if you are concerned about people overhearing.0

Unless your shouting no one would hear
Your looking for reasons to moan, and this wasnt bad service, this was the bank abiding by the law and policies
Some people really dont get the level of fraud and legislation relating to money withdrawals
Your lucky you didnt end up reported to the AML bodies or the cash being withheld due to suspicous behaviour0 -
Hey, OP, the bank staff might fancy you?! That was why he/she asked you so many personal questions.0
