cl41re_r - did you keep a note of his name, the date and time of your call?
If they start calling you again after, say, a couple of weeks, go to the Information Commissioner's website (www.ico.gov.uk) and report them as they're breaking the law if they say they'll remove you when asked but don't actually do it.0 -
I just got a call from that number claiming to be finngan international (?) on behalf of debenhams wanting to try to sell me something to protect my identity and when I didn't want to confirm my full name and postcode they cut me off!!
Does anyone know how legitimate they are?0 -
Ugh I think this number has called us twice. We missed a call last night and my boyfriend said it was an 0800 number. I just answered the phone just now and there was just background music so I hung up. Just as I was hanging up I heard someone speak but it was too late lol. It was 0800 389 6181.0

I have had numerous calls from this number over the past few days. I am at work during the day and hubby as been at home. They won't speak to him about what ever it is. Say they are Affinion International but after reading this thread looks like to be a scam.
Aprantely they should have called back this pm to talk to me but as of yet nothing. At least I am warned and I will not answer the questions.

I found the forum through googling the number in question, as I'd had a number of missed calls from them. I had a call from again this morning and ascertained that they're a third party company that perform marketing calls on behalf of whoever pays them.
On this occasion they were calling on behalf of BT. I informed them that I had requested on several occasions that BT stop making marketing calls to me, and that my number was listed with the TPS, and as such, BT was in breach of Data Protection Legislation by making the call and I needed to speak with a supervisor.
I was pleasant, but firm, as it's not their fault for being given my number ... BT are at fault. They recognised that this was the case, offered to remove my number from their list, and advised that I contact BT customer care to take up the matter.
As I've done this on several occasions before, and requested no further calls from the caller each time BT contact me (roughly every 6 months), I decided on this occasion that a further call to Customer Care would not be effective, and have submitted a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office.0 -
Just had a call from these time wasters. Folks there is an answer, it costs around £95, but it allegedly works, and NO i do not work for them. The company is truecall and as I am classed as a new user I cannot put the full link in this note, but I guess you know how to tag the www at the front and the co and uk at the end? I suppose if you are getting loads of calls from The (I am not ) Listening Company, then this might be cost effective
Good luck with it..0 -
Just had a call from them offering me a job! I don't want to work for them after reading this thread.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are E7760/3970. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. Atol numbers can be checked with the Civil Aviation Authority. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.0

I hate these sort of practices and think I have a solution! What is the one type of number that is useless to them.....a fax machine!
1. Before you get the call you fire your PC up, make sure you have a phone by the PC and open this web site:-soundsnap.com/node/92759 (you will need to prefix with https://www.)
2. When they phone just play the sound down the phone (multiple times if you need to!)
3. Either the machine or the operator will realise it is a fax and hopefully remove it from their database.
I am dying to try it next time they phone. If anyone beats me to it then please let us all know!

Another tactic, once you recognise the number, when you answer make a noise, a cough will do. This triggers the connection to a call center rep. if there is one available. Then just leave the phone on the desk with the line open. It costs them money, after 3 or 4 days of this one lot trying to contact me from one of these known call centre numbers gave up and I never heard from them again.0
