    Hi terrified77,
John Wayne once said "courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway"
So "saddle up" honey and get that advice. Being bankrupt isn't as bad as sitting there worrying about going bankrupt. No one will judge your person or blame you they just need to know who and what you owe then they take it from there. Any other support you need is right here on this forum let us know how it goes lol x.

    Hey Dalip,

Well put!! & I hav`nt really started my `ride` yet!! I will add though that making the initial decision is very difficult but once decision is made I will just think `bring it on` after all main decision has been the realisation that I can`t go on like this & I`m determined to get `it sorted` .

Sounds like T77 is in same frame of mind.

    Thanks

Thankyou. How many times have you looked at a scary ride at a fair, chickened out and then walked away and watched your friends go on it only for them to say"it was not that bad"? Then plucked up the courage to actually go on that ride and then after thought "yes my friends were right it was not that bad"!. We are your friends here, we have all been on that ride and we are telling you it is not as scarey as it looks. Yes there will be times when you wish you could get off but you have to see the ride throuh to the end. Once on there is no going back.
When i get my AD it will be like walking away from the biggest big dipper in the world and never going on it again!:D

Not booked yet...my OH is going BR but don`t see how I can manage as he will lose his job. I feel after reading here & speaking to advisor that BR is best route. The CCCS say DMP but try as I may I can`t see how this will work in practice. I am waiting for their debt plan in the post & then will review.

I could continue as now but know that the brick wall is looming quickly & I want to sort this now. Big issue is without his salary no way I can manage mtge & Sl. I have posted SOA yeserday so plse feel free to take a look. All suggestions very gratefully recvd.

  • First of all dont worry....

I recently went bankrupt with a 35,000 debt and I could not give a full explanation of where the money went because I am unsure some went on holidays most went on paying off other debts and some was stupidity from not cutting up credit cards when I transferred the balance.

I decided to go bankrupt and this is what happens...

    1. Fill out some forms (takes a few hours)
    2. Take them to your local court
    3. Turn up the next day where you if like me wont have to see a judge and will be out within 15 minutes with your paperwork
    4. Have a telephone interview with your Official Receiver about 2 weeks later which lasts about an hour and if you dont know the answers you just say you dont know If you wasted the money on stupid things just tell the truth be honest and they will be really sympathetic.
    5. Call all your creditors and tell them where to shove there debts (optional but gives great satisfaction)

    6. Sit back and wait for your discharge with an enormous sense of relief.

IT REALLY IS A PEICE OF CAKE!

Just do it, dont worry about it and make a new start.

Good luck and STOP FRETTING! x

Just want to add "my bit"- spot on Dalip- it is a rollercoaster.
Only been bankrupt 4 days but am finding this easier than the horrible days before. Bankruptcy and the OR are pretty scary had ups and downs- but nothing has been as bad as the total and utter despair I felt before I decided on going down the BR route.

Yes, you've been stupid and irresponsible - but if that was the criteria for going to jail it would be even more crowded than it is already - and most of us on MSE would be in there alongside you :o .

I hope you have taken heart from all the advice on here. 1 more thing to add - no-one has commented on you losing your home. I believe the official line is that the Official Receiver MAY sell your home. This is if there is equity in it - which there isn't in your case - so I can't see that this would happen.

HOWEVER - your mortgage co could act to repossess if your arrears remain -so use the money from the loan to pay off arrears. Also clear the CTax debt as they are v quick to take court action. And clear leccy arrears as well.

I hope you've contacted one of the debtlines advised and are not in as much of a panic. Take care xxx
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
