You could try the towel trick (search youtube), combined with opening it up and applying decent thermal paste between the GPU and it's heatsink.

It's guaranteed against the RROD for THREE YEARS so get it changed under warranty. Phone Microsoft and get them to collect it.

Your missing the point, he doesn't have a warranty, it was voided the minute someone opened the Xbox up and flashed the drive.

its a contract company who repairs them and i think they get paid per box so not worryed about if its flashed to much. ive known people to send these boxes and get they got repaired

Funny coming from a guy who asked earlier in the same thread not to be called a fanboy. In addition, people normally quote when the quote is actually relevant to their answer, but I didn't mention any other system, and that includes a XBOX360 (which I happen not to own).
for info, I own a XBOX, PSone, GBA SP, GB, and NeoGeo Pocket. Nice try nonetheless.
I'd still welcome the £300 though. I accept cheques if that's more convenient.

my xbox 360 got the 3 red lights of death and they didn't even look at the seals in the shop (was 1 month inside the 1 year guarantee) all they did was plug it in and check the wires worked.

Got an upgraded one free... with hdmi on tha back...

Wasn't flashed so flashing doesn't cause the ring of death!!
