Oh no, it's not that, I have to balance the spaghetti on top of tins and stuff or it would all get knocked out everywhere. There are massive gaps in the cupboards but it's just really poorly arranged. Sounds like you need some additional shelves in there.
Be warned: Approved Foods orders are the road to hell. I've had to stash some of mine in the spare bedroom as there's no shelf-space left for it.
I've heard that under-bed storage-boxes are useful for stashing tins of tomatoes.0 -

I must have a dozen bits and bobs from those pages now. Been very pleased with all of them. None of them are hiding with the spiders in the back of my darkest deepest cupboards from lack of TLC. Or use

One of us will merge your thread with that one later to keep the tips together.

Thanks ladies
, I appreciate all of the good advice.
Hopefully I won't have to resort to stashing stuff in the spare bedroom as I don't actually have one .
I'm done now. I have cleared and sorted and found all sorts of wonders in there. I also only smashed on jar by knocking it out of the spice cupboard with my elbow. The hoover now has a wonderful smell of cumin and a prit stick jammed up the nozzle (really, don't ask).
I have found 2 old jellies in the depths of one of the cupboards and have made them up so they are chilling in the fridge. I don't know why I don't do it more often, I feel like I am loving my kids when I make them up little individual jelly pots for their lunch boxes.
My problem areas are tea, hundreds of different types. So instead of reaching for the coffee jar, I have had roibus (sp?) tea at 11ses. Linseeds, the packets seem to breed in the cupboard. That's fine, they'll get used for bread and cakes. Treacle, I have 4 unopened tins there (gingerbread anyone?), and spices. They take up so much space that we can't find what we do have so end up buying duplicates. Hence I need to make lots of curries and chillies. The chillies will help me to use up my dried bean collection too hopefully.
I will confess to throwing away a large jar of soya mince because I know it's been in the cupboard for several years and nobody likes it. DH went on a mission saying we eat too much meat so bought that but it's bleurgh and I can't even hide it in normal mince dishes to disguise it.
Nothing else has actually been slung out so I'm quite impressed. I have repurposed a plastic box to put the crisps in and they are now able to fit in my small cupboards and I've been able to bring the bread down a shelf so it has it's own shelf. I still can't get a full loaf of bread in the cupboard depthwise but I can when I make my own bread. I will do this more often in order to work on my flour mountain.
At least I now know what I have so can start menu planning with that in mind. All foods are grouped into types of meal they are used for so are easy to lay hands on. So pleased with my mornings work, now I'm off to have a browse through the links so kindly provided(with a cup of tea!).

If you live near an Ikea they're great for kitchen cupboard storage. I've got a couple of their add-a-shelves for my tin cupboard and I use an old ice-cream tub to store sachets and jellys.

I like to wander around the kitchens in Ikea peeking in all the cupboards to get ideas for my own.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Ikea will be the death of me! I do like their storage stuff but as I don't have an Ikea kitchen, the stuff doesn't fit so well into my cupboards. I'm getting there though. Just trying to decide what to have for tea tonight now. I have found some lovely recipes for using up som of the treacle so will be making biscuits and cakes later. Also found a recipe for a cream cheese frosting which sounds delishious and guess what, I have lots of cream cheese in stock so will be doing that laterDebt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

Cupboard under the stairs. Garden shed. There's an awful lot of unused space space where the walls meet the ceilings which are crying out for shelving or a run of smallish cupboards
.

What I think might be useful is to sellotape an inventory onto the inside of each of the cupboard doors, so you know what's in there if you haven't memorised everything already. That should stop you buying duplicates. Meanwhile make Parkin once a week. Yum yum.

I don't blame you, I also think it's vile.

If there was ever a compelling reason to make your own bread, a flour mountain is it.

I hope you enjoyed your tea because it sounds like you earned it. You're organised, you can plan properly. It's OK to feel satisfied with your work and a tiny bit smug for a while.0
