Build up custard as a rare & exotic delicacy, that you were allowed only on high days & holidays.
Chop bananas, drown in custard & serve.
(I'm not good at puddings either, but I can & do mislead my offspring as & when...)0 -
Loads of puddings on the grocery thread - first few posts is the recipe index. Jam crumblie is nice:
6oz butter/marg
6oz dark soft brown sugar
6oz porridge oats
7oz plain flour
pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
4oz jam
lightly grease an 8" square microwaveable dish
Cream butter and sugar together
stir in the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly
Press half the mixture into the dish
melt the jam in the microwave and then spread over the base
crumble on the remaining oat mixture pressing it down lightly
bake in the microwave for 6 minutes on full power
cut into squares and cool in the dish.
Substitute jam with mincemeat for the December festival
I can't take the credit for this one but I copied the recipe from MSE somewhere I'm sure...Bossymoo

Ooh, and on holiday last year, DS got "moonraker" pudding or something. Basically custard (even instant could be used) with a handful of maltesers and choc stars scattered over. They start to melt in the hot custard. I had a taste and it was pretty good, to be honestBossymoo

I don't think spam would really go well in a pudding0

Hi guys, i am looking for suggestions for cheap and easy puddings for a bbq party. I am going to do profiteroles but just looking for ideas for those who don't like profiteroles x
Thanks in advance xLucylema x :j0 -
If it's for a bbq, how about bbq'd fruit skewers? Or bananas cooked in their skins on the bbq, then served with ice cream.0

How about fruit salad? You could use a mixture of tinned or frozen and fresh to cut down on preparation, and icecream if required.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

Poor Knights of Windsor, basically fried jam sandwiches, sometimes dipped in whisked egg and milk before frying. Best size is 1/4s of two slice sandwiches, fry in a little butter until golden on both sides, sprinkle with sugar/cinnamon sugar and pour on either jam sauce (same jam as in samdwich diluted with a bit of hot water and warmed through and cream or ice cream. Very old fashioned but yummy nonetheless! also cheap as chips!0

Things like tarts might be an idea, they can be made in advance and are ok left at room temperature whilst the fridge is full of meat and drinks.
I'd suggest a nice tangy lemon tart to cut through all the grease of the BBQ."Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Lemon tart is lovely.
My standard for BBQ is ice cream, nice crispy biscuits and fruit salad.0
