I'm seriously considering raising a complaint about my MP's conduct. Am I overreacting?

I would think you are, would it have been more acceptable if your MP had referred to you as The Occupier when corresponding with the body sending these letters.

    Mutton_Geoff is not overreacting.

The BBC has no need to know the names of people living in unlicensed properties.

The MP should not have passed on this personal data, and the BBC should not be storing it.

    I agree.
    Not overreacting at all.
Unfortunately MP's are generally on the side of the establishment.
As for how to refer to the complainant, "my constituent" would suffice.

I`ve no sympathy for the BBC, Capita or MP`s.
The MP probably didn`t even read the OP letter, just his secretary.
It would be hard for the MP to complain to the BBC licensing about a certain constituent being harrassed by them, without naming him.
It is what it is, move on.

MPs are there primarily to make law.

MuttonJeff was notifying his MP about a systematic problem in the way in which the BBC goes about license enforcement.

The MP should address the general issue.

Absolutely no need to contact the BBC about the specific case.

Correspondent or complainant, suppose it depends on outlook.

If MP had referred to my constituent ,for filing they would probably have used a number to identify which one, that would seem a bit Orwellian and smacks of gulag to me.

Surely MP`s know and have known for years how the  TVL have enforced  the fee.
From the TV vans that could even detect which channel was being watched to the TVL private "police force" called Capita, which costs about £8m to run. Not to mention threatening letters.
The OP complained he was being harassed.

For me, that's one of the classic questions about the TV Licence.   I know that MPs get quite a lot of complaints about them (as we'd expect), and that they have special access to be able to resolve them.

Unfortunately, neither of the two possible answers show MPs in a particularly good light - either they know how the TVL regime works, with all its flaws, and choose to ignore it; OR they don't know how it works, and lack the professional curiosity to find out.

I suppose there's a third way - they have been curious, have asked the BBC about it, and unwisely taken the BBC's assurances as definitive.

And as shown recently, can't or won't find an alternative method to fund it.
Although the current media minister has stated she doesn't like the licence way.

Whatever way you want to see it.
To me it's to do with privacy.
An MP should ask for express permission to reveal identities, that is common sense and decency IMHO.
