When I moved into my house there were three letters from TV licencing, the last telling 'the occupier' that a TV was being used in the house without a licence and that they were taking me to court... It clearly stated that they had warned and then visited the property to prove it.
Unfortunately for them, the property had been empty, completely, curtains, light fittings, the works for three months previous to the date they had allegedly visited and confirmed a TV was being used!
Sorry did you not realise that Crapita will lie and deceive to earn their commission?
Their speciality is disabled people and care in the community whom they confuse and con into buying a licence.
The letters usually say "what you will need in Court" and other such sheeete to scare you, but if you look on YouTube you can see they have obtained warrants that proved to be on false evidence.
Golden Rule is to not engage them, although filming them and telling them to Foxtrot Oscar does provide new YT material. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
I work for a university. Our libraries are covered by a licence (I've raised this with our library people and had this confirmed). Therefore as I undertstand it, I can download BBC programmes to my tablet/phone and as long as I don't plug them into a mains when I get home, I can take them home to watch the programmes. This would apply to all our students too. This means I can charge my tablet/phone in the library and download programmes of choice. Feeling thankful for the benefits of working in Higher Education!0

Yes.
It doesn't matter if you plug your tablet/phone in for this - that is for a different exemption.0 -

This is exactly what the TVL/BBC wanted to achieve.
The TVL (the BBC under a different name) has basically found a way to possibly increase their income in lieu of the licence fee not being continually increased above inflation as they would have liked. They should have entered a subscription based sign in on their iplayer app. Though you may not hold a physical paper licence anyone with a licence will still have a reference number.
It will be interesting to look at their website and see how they have re-worded their general information.
For anyone who is legally licence free so long as you are not using the bbc iplayer nothing has changed except they have an additional line of in your face interrogation at your front door, delivered in their usual accusational 'you are breaking the law' type manner designed to incriminate.
These 'enquiry officers' that MSE refer to will not introduce themselves as this, they will refer to themselves as a TV licencing enforcement officer, who has ZERO rights above any other citizen. You are under no obligation to talk to them, they have no right to enter your house. Close the door on them, or better still do not answer the door if you are not expecting anyone.
Remember, all convictions are as a result of some form of confession to them. If you say nothing they will not even have your name. Not one conviction has ever been brought about as a result of any detection device, it is all confession evidence (whether the confession is actually genuine is for another debate).
I totally agree, I saw the little worm around a few months ago but he has not bothered me yet.
I can see some of them confusing people with "does your DVD player work with BBC Iplayer, you might answer Yes and they tell you that you need a licence but you actually have to be using it, so the DVD player would need a feed from Internet.
I reinstalled my new Roku3 and made sure it did not even download any BBC channels or Iplayer.
Not that any TVL Crapita goon will ever get past the door.
My Plex setup is sweet, no live TV of any kind, just my own content.
It is such a lifestyle improvement dumping the BBC, Freeview and Sky, all their drivel TV.
What really bugs me is the lost opportunity here for the BBC to update BBC Iplayer to a subscription model, simply enter your TV Licence number and perhaps surname and postcode. If not you pay a subscription and the BBC can get revenue from people around the world.
How ridiculous is it that if you are in the UK BBC content on YouTube is blocked but in free for anyone outside UK?

Now if I visit friends who have the BBC it feels foreign to me, I have no desire to watch it.
Even for their top progs, I would much rather bake myself and eat the results than watch others bake off.

One thing that people may not realise is that the BBC contract with Crapita is such that after a certain level of income Crapita get to keep all of the money, that is why their sales reps act like commission hungry goons who used to make their money wheel clamping old ladies who nipped in the shop for a packet of PG Tips. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
No. I corrected an out of date assumption about whether a website owner can identify battery use, which you then challenged. The particular demo I linked to, clearly says "View this demo in the latest Firefox, otherwise it does not work" at the top of the page. The wider argument doesn't interest me, so I have no intention of reading the other 2400 posts to identify the context. There seems a lot of contributors with a solitary post to their name, could it be that someone with an obsessive interest in the subject is bumping the thread to keep it going.Free loaders *could* just pay their share, stop looking for ludicrous workarounds or obsessing about the likelihood of avoiding prosecution (is that how adults normally choose which laws to follow?)£145 is a small percentage of a typical households bills, all content has to be paid for one way or another.0

But does the ownership of a mobile device matter? If in my work canteen they are showing the BBC naturally I don't need a TV Licence, and I don't think I would if I watched iPlayer on my work PC at my desk. where is that line drawn with my work mobile or laptop? If i used my work phone to watch iPlayer at work, is that allowed? what about at home?
You are missing the point.
Do NOT engage, do not answer the door, do not speak to them, if you open the door and they launch their "are you the occupier" script. Shut the door.
They have to PROVE, only way they can do that is with your admission you use their products or services, (usually by replying to some vague question that does not say you do but implies you might be capable).
I am sure you could think of 43 scenarios where there might be a query, but if you do not engage all they can do is move on.Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
I don't care about 'the point', it is not something that most people waste their time on, they just pay up. I posted about battery levels, along with a list of browsers which support the battery level api currently, which includes many versions of chrome, inevitably more will follow.
All the answers are available on the tvl website or via google, why it needs a thread of 2400 posts is beyond me.
No confusion, did you miss the word 'or'
It's an optional tax in return for a service, 40p/day direct debit in return for a massive choice of entertainment, if you use it, pay it, if you don't, don't. Other taxes you have no control over. More obsessional than political.Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

Yes, that's how it should be, but the BBC seem to have a hard time accepting it.
I'll make a deal with you: when the BBC metaphorically gets its tanks off my lawn, and off the lawns of all LLF (legally Licence-free) people, I will stop complaining about it... probably.0 -

You are missing the point that I don't care about you not caring about the 'the point', all this meaningless shight about battery levels is ballhooks.
The most any rights owner got was for an ISP to write to an address saying we have been asked to write to you and even that had to be paid for by the rights owner.
You clearly think it is worth paying for so you are mute really, just keep paying for the tripe that you feel is quality.
Personally I think the BBC should just move onto a subscription model, all current kit is capable of taking subs, even freeview boxes. Sky can collect or include and so could TV companies the world over.
We then would not need these goons abusing people as they have done so many times.
People who prey on the disabled, mentally infirm and so on are scum as are the people who employ them.
I am just waiting for C4 to put in an undercover to record the training these goons get, where they tell new staff how to con and twist.
I saw a female officer out for training with an experienced male officer, the 6ft 4inch goon put his foot in the door, it was all caught on CCTV and a complain is in the works. He even got the bytch to lie but the CCTV proved it.
Now they are not allowed in the building which has over 100 flats, they have to leave their paperwork at reception, it can be personally addressed. This is what most visitors have to do but they were allowing Crapita special treatment.
I think we all know that it is the beginning of the end for the BBC, their endless greed means they will be broken up into a community organisation for radio and other free services and a commercial business. If they were sensible they would move to a subscription model now so they are ready for that.
Actually I do have a choice on tax on holidays and insurance by not buying them, the difference is they do not send around a bunch of goons to threaten and intimidate people.
PS. Just realised you were not even the person I was talking to, it was NicklausIII, so you really have nothing to say at all, because you are happy to pay, so pay and let us that do not like the Gestapo technique have a nice rant because it stops us kicking the s out of these goons after following them down the road. The videos on YouTube show they really do not like being followed and filmed, suddenly they get all angry. TVL has even tried to take town videos that show the names on the ID or the number plate of vehicles, why would you do that if you had nothing to hideand were doing a decent job, people do not give electricity meter readers grief because they do an honest days work with no threats or intimidation. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
Try not paying car tax/income tax/inheritance tax/council tax/stamp duty/parking fines.
What do you consider to be quality programming?Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0
