Well, to be fair, the bbc themselves reckon that most people who watch online also watch normal tv too.Happy chappy0

I've just found out that when my daughter goes to University in September, she has to pay for her own individual TV licence even though she'll be in "halls" with many many more students... all of which have to get a licence each. At least !!!!!! Turpin wore a mask!!!!0

Ogirl - does she really need to take her telly with her? Most halls have common rooms and trust me when I say that I didn't use mine at all in my first year. Too much to do.0

I've just had a call in person from a BBC goon., at 17.50. So much for better handling their 'revenue protection' activities. I got a call on the outer door intercom, the goon says 'I'm the investigating officer and wish to confirm I am speaking to the resident' I asked who he was, and he said 'the investigating officer' so I asked from where. He said 'just confirm who you are and I will tell you' So I told him to go away. He persisted in making a nuisance of himself and pressed the intercom buzzer half a dozen times. My children were at home, and became alarmed. So I went down with my video camera running and videoed him through the glass. I won't describe him here, as it would be non-PC(!). He put a letter through the door 'WE TOLD YOU WE'D CALL' If this isn't intimidation and harassment, I don't know what is. My wife was out at the time, but would have definitely experienced difficulties (as she is a non-native speaker). I have told her simply not to let anyone past door. I will be writing to the Prime Ministers office. I have not had a TV, ever, but I don't see why I should waste my time with these people. :mad:0

Wouldnt they qualify the fact you have a pc monitor and can receive TV signals in some shape or form over the internet..

You are missing the point. The license is required for the actual act of receiving live broadcasts. Owning a PC, or indeed TV, is irrelevant.0 -
On reading the title I thought this was gong to be about Spike Milligan or maybe Harry Secombe."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Wish it was - a sense of humour helps.0 -
How did you know he was from the TV licensing dept if all he said was "i'm the investigating officer". He must have said something else if you knew where he was from. Also, I think you only have to own a TV to need a license, whether you watch it or not. When you buy a TV, you have to give your address to the retailer, & they have to inform the licensing dept, its the law. I've not heard of anyone buying a TV & saying that they are not going to watch it, unless of course, its just for DVD's.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Do I need a TV Licence? You must be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. It makes no difference what equipment you use - whether it’s a laptop, PC, mobile phone, digital box, DVD recorder or a TV set - you still need a licence.
You do not need a TV Licence to view video clips on the internet, as long as what you are viewing is not being shown on TV at the same time as you are viewing it.
If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system, or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.
Many people I know who do not have a TV licence (meet the above criteria) are continuley hassled as it is assumed everybody watches TV.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
