Thank you, its a relief also to know its not so early every morning. I get up at 6 ish anyway, but I'm a bit slow in the mornings & would have to get up at 5 if I had to get the train that gets me there at 8. If I''m not needed till 10, I can get the one that gets me there at nine ish.

I work for Surrey county council.

IIRC the first day started at 9am. After that it was usually 10am if you were on a Jury. Most days finished at 4-4.30pm Depending on any evidence being given. Sometimes we could be in the Court Room and be sent home early because a witness hadn't turned up. One day we turned up at the Court to be sent straight home because a fellow juror had had an accident and we got 2 days off.

I only done service for 2 weeks, my brother had to do just over 6 weeks.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

£60 is a very healthy sum of money for the chance to do something completely different for once (you probably won't get this oppertunity again), and IMO it is also your duty to society, being a british citizen.

I don't get paid for giving blood......

Am I wrong to expect not to loose out on my wages:confused:

Why should I take a pay cut?

Giving blood is optional (& I don't mean to sound flippant).

6 weeks & I would be well into my holiday abroad.

Its actually the THIRD time I've been called:mad:

The first time I was heavily pregnant, my bladder wouldn't have allowed me to sit there for hours.
The next time I was a mum of a young baby who was working but evenings & I didn't have childcare for those hours.
    This time, they've nailed me:rotfl:

Yes ~ you should be proud to do this for your country and proud to either convict the guilty or exonerate the innocent!

  • i did jury service a few years ago and i thought it was really interesting, and in the end they only chose the 11 or 12 they needed out of about 30 of us and i never had to go back.

i think i only had to go in for 3 days and then i was excused. so you may get away with it.

it is up to the judge to excuse you.

You lose out on your wages everytime you pay tax - it's all part of life of living in this country.

Unless you become a politication or emigrate, there's nothing you can do.

And I think it's fair enough, if there wasn't a max amount to be paid out then you'd get some people taking the P and claiming hundreds of £ a day from the courts

I don't need a pay cut or to have to wait for a refund of monies paid out just before a holiday

    And do you do that?

    No, I would if I could but I faint:o
Hubby can't either because he had a blood transfusion in the late 80's, he would love to especially because of this.

All i would expect is my daily rate.

If I find out tomorrow that the council pays me still then I have no problem with that.
