I did it last year and it was a really interesting experience. If you get the chance I would say go for it. It is not a chore, it is a valuable service and part of our legal system.
As for the personal insults on here they are really not called for. Everyone knows that there was no intention to insult those that have spare time during the day.

Something is only an insult if it isn't true. ;):p

MrsE did not refer to 'those that have spare time during the day' (night workers?), she referred to those on benefits. There is a big difference between the two!

If I could drive there & park (its the parking that prevents it) or if I could get there easier it wouldn't be too bad.

Its just that living in a village with a limited number of buses to the train station is what makes it arkward.

I normally love living so rural & if its my choice then its up to me to sort oot transport & or parking.

But this is forced on me. The courts at Redhill would be much closer, maybe they are not jury ones:confused:

Croydon is in London, I'm sure most people can do their jury service in the county they live in.

Night workers do not have free time during the day to go to court.

Do you expect them to go two weeks without sleep???

They have more spare time during the day than they do at night, Noname29 didn't refer to convenience!

I can't believe you don't want to do it because you cannot drive your car there. Maybe you should ring the court and explain this to them ... I bet they'll welcome the laugh! :rotfl:

Didn't think you were replying to me anymore?

Its because I don't have much in the way of public transport, as I live in a village, not because I want to drive.

I just don't want to have to get up before dawn to have to get there an hour before I need to because I can't get a conection if I leave it till the next bus.

And because coming home, I will have the same problems, hanging about for ages waiting for a hourly or worse bus.

I'm guessing with your suggestion that night workers have lots of free time during the day you don't work do you?

Tell a nurse how much free time she has during the day, after doing a 13 hour night shift.

As Im on an art course we dont have lectures as such. We have times when we have to be in attendance to complete our projects (if not in we get kicked off course etc etc).

The jury date falls exactly in the few weeks that my Final project has to be handed in. This is the final project for the whole degree and is pretty much the whole mark for it (exhibition and everything).

I cant get an extension for this one as there is an exhibition I will need to exhibit at! They cant move that for me, lol.

I will also be working over the summer / going away so wont be available then.

Can I ask to be excused as theres no way I can do it in the next 12 months but wouldnt mind doing it after!

    Help!!

Contact the court asap ~ they may be able to defer the dates of *your calling*.

As dmg says though you will need a letter from your tutor/college.

You can ask. I would definitely get a letter from the course leader explaining the structure of your course, and why an extension would not be possible.

Good luck with your project! x
