    No I'm not a troll.

But what is the point in forcing people to do it?

I bet if they just allowed people to opt out there would be enough people willing to do so.

I didn't mean to force pensioners, but I bet a lot of them would like it, if they were bored.

Don't see any mention of people on the dole here

so its in order that disabled people do jury service so you don't have to?

    No I didn't say that.

Look I'm just p1ssed at having to do it.
It will mean getting up at 5 instead of 6 & probably not getting in till god knows what hour & then going to back to work to be very behind.

Hi I also got one of these lovely letters today!

Im a full time uni student and am just finishing my projects for the second year (finish in June, called up mid may).

Is this a viable enough reason to be excused as I cannot do it for the next 12 months as I will still be a uni student and theres no way I could miss a few days let alone 2 weeks!

Cheers for your help guys :)

OK then, you're just very ignorant.

Do you really think that you are so important that you should have the choice not to do it?

NO I DON'T THINK I AM SO IMPORTANT.

I just think people who are FORCED to do it are not the best people for it. I am their under duress & resentful.

    Thank you & goodnight

I have no further wish to engage with you, you have called me quite enough names for one night.

    When do lectures finish?

If you are still in lectures, then you will probably be excused jury service, as it would be very difficult to rearrange the lectures!

If lectures have finished by then, an outstanding project is unlikely to be a good enough reason to be excused. However, jury service is likely to be a good enough reason to get an extension on your project.

If you do wish to be excused, you will need a letter from your course leader explaining the situation x

I did it last year and it was a really interesting experience. If you get the chance I would say go for it. It is not a chore, it is a valuable service and part of our legal system.
As for the personal insults on here they are really not called for. Everyone knows that there was no intention to insult those that have spare time during the day.
  • I've just finished Jury Service. It was very disadvantagous to me financially as I had to cancel some work, which I will not get paid back for.
But - it is your civil duty, and everyone else there is in the same boat, so just grin and get on with it :-) and please don't forget, you may be unfortunate enough to need the services of a jury one day.
