there should be somewhere near a tram stop that you can park for free?:happyhear0

I've noticed before, and not just on this thread, that many people want to find ways to opt out of doing their duty on jury service and it really bothers me that they do not care enough about their community to put themselves out a bit and do their duty.
My son did it (he was unemployed at the time Mrs E!) . He was on JSA and was told he would have to sign off Jobseekers Allowance to do the jury service as he was not avavilable for work! However, he queried this as he really wanted to do his duty and they found a newly-passed law which said he could remain signed on but his money would be adjusted - this seems fair enough.
He went for about ten days and served on two juries and found it extrememly interesting as well as feeling he had played an important role for society.

I was just worried about taking a reduction in money just before a holiday thats costing us just over 2k for 2 of us. Not a great time for the state to stop me earning.
Is it not fair enough to question the financial aspect of it.
Would you like to be told you are doing the following two weeks for less than usual & probably more hours too?0 -
Although I think it is good that you can claim expenses, and hopefully loss of earnings, I personally would be prepared to do it for less money than I would normally have.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I would not have wanted or expected a penny more than my actual expenses.
I note in your sig you are debt & mortgage free, perhaps that is why you would be prepared to do it for less than your normal wages? Not all of us are able.0 -
I have not always been debt and mortgage free! Many years of working and paying like everyone else! but have always felt the same about this subject. I would be prepared to suffer a small financial loss to do jury service. Just cut back on something else if necessary.
I stress that this is my personal opinion only.
I will not get called now anyway as I live in Spain.
(edited to add) I don't want you thinking we have pots of money. We live here on less than 10k a year. This is my husband's Teachers' Pension and another small income. I have no income of my own.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Autismmum, I think you would be excused. Ring the court if you are called and tell them your circumstances. I'm sure they would consider it a genuine reason not to serve.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I don't know that anyone is automatically exempt (apart from criminals & mentally ill people), but I'm sure they allow reasonable requests for getting off it.
Yours sounds more than reasonable, so don't worry about it.0
