positivelymummy wrote: »thanks, you've certainly boosted my confidence, my OH (who knows nowt about bags) was saying things at first like "they're a bit big aren;t they?" and "ooh i'm not sure if people will like bright bold colours/flowers", anyway his sisters liked them so i stopped listening to him. i'm getting a bit bag mad now, and whenever i'm out i'm always checking out what people are using to carry shopping in:L:L:L oh yes, i'll be making some makeup bags too, as the pattern is just like the purses but a bit bigger. aaah i think i know what all my friends and family will be getting for christmas this year!
Tell you OH we need big bags so we can shop loads :rotfl:They are far better than carrier bags as leave your hands free for a start not to mention the environment aspect.
The large one with the big handles would be fab to hang up on the bathroom door to put toiletries etc in.0 -
Positivelymummy Do the big bags come with long enough handles that you can throw your shopping bag over your shoulder, I prefer to carry things that way rather than in my handsProud to be dealing with my debts Sealed pot challenge 180 £2 coins £184 2008 £1 a day challenge£100+ Nectar 4809/Boots 1724 Focus for 2008 Clear £1777.00 CC, [strike]£1000 [/strike]overdraft Holiday [strike]£525[/strike]:j CC recovery£976 NO SMOKING WK7 £2100

They are so lovely well done you! They will be great for shopping with all this plastic bag hatred!
Have you ever worked with oilcloth? You could use it to line the bags and that would make them wipe-clean, good for make up bags or toiletry bags or beach bags. You could make baby change bags too, it'd be easy to make a matching changing mat that fits inside, I have a pattern for a binky bag (dummies to us!) that fastens onto the bag strap too, I'll share if you like
One last thought, with totes, I like them to fasten, could you add a button and loop or zip maybe if people wanted?

such great comments, yes the larger ones with the boxy bottom have handles to go over shoulder (thats how i like them) and the smaller flat ones are just for carrying in hand. i've never made a tote bag with a zip but was thinking of making some with a kind of strap that will fasten with a button (i'll show you when i've done one!) and also i'm going to be brave and try a few with a zippered pocket inside...phew!!...busy me! i've never worked with oilcloth before, but have seen some really nice ones..i was looking at ones from laura ashley last night, thanks for the ideas etc, by the way the fabrics i used were designers Moda, Freespirit and i think Hoffman? cant quite remember now as my brain is a little frazzled...need to go and tell my OH to get busy with the website! i'm moving house in 2 weeks so thats why all the photos are taken in the corner on a table...so you dont see all the piles of boxes and stacks of my junk!!:rotfl:totally a tog!:D0

They are lovely,I do like the pink one,
when mine were tiny tots and into
everything they shoudent be I used
to have a similar styled one with all
my make up perfumes etc hanging on
the back of the bathroom door high
up on a hook well out of their reach.
It was really handy I am on the point
of making little bags with my nieces,
hope ours turn out as well as yours.
Lost the cable off my machine, been
missing for ages and I have finaly found
it,so its all systems go.:j:j:j0 -
I have been making similar unlined bags to use as gift bags. I also bought some Xmas fabric in the sales with the same idea.0
