Which Kitchen Scales ?

After the above post, I think I'm going to have to give in and buy a digital scale. All my newest recipe books have the ingredients in metric only and the markers are just too small and difficult to see on my scale. And my eyesight isn't really that bad! I really can't be bothered with a balance scale so digital it will have to be.
I have £22.60 on an Argos voucher. Is there anything on the Argos website that anyone particularly recommends? Preferably something easy to store.0 -
i have these
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000HZ87US/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=471057153&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000IT5BQ6&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1TBX3TXJAE0KSW3E7ZR8
you screw the middle onto the wall and place the disc over
it stays there, until you want to use it
take the disk off, and place on work surface, and you can read the disk on the wall for weight, it works wirelessly
fantastic scales, and easy storage
cheaper on ebay though0 -

Oh wow, they're so cool! I've been looking for a set for a while and hadn't spotted them. I can't put things on the wall, otherwise i'd consider them.
I've got my eye on these as want some digital scales too. I keep putting off buying them though!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

I just reserved those on the Argos website! I'll pick them up tomorrow unless anyone has anything bad to report about them.0 -
Mine are the Asda SmartPrice ones - £1.99 (four years ago) and weigh in lbs/ozs as well as metric. Found them to be as accurate as needed - I'm not doing nuclear physics/chemistry.0

I'm using some smashing digital ones that my sister gave me. They weigh in imperial and metric (but of course, they're always set to imperial
)
My sister is blind and bought them from the RNIB a few years back. They even talk to you0 -

those ones are the ones i am replacing
i hve used mine 4 times
great scales, but no matter where or how i store them, each time i take them out the battery is flat, i have owned them about 12 months, and like i said, used 4 times, and they have had 3 batteries
i dont know if mine are faulty, but they obviously switch themselves on till the battery goes
at first i had slotted them in with cookery books, so thought it was my own falut
2nd time, in a cupbord with baking tins, and thought perhaps one had been on top
3rd time, i placed them in a little used drawer, with only 2 maps underneath, i KNOW nothing was on them
you may have better luck, they were nice compact scales and easy to use - when i could!0 -
Oh, thanks for that, that doesn't sound good
They do have good reviews and only one mentions battery problems so maybe yours were faulty and you were unlucky. I'll make sure I keep the receipt. I use my scales so often that if there is a problem I'll notice it within a few days.
I really don't want new scales at all but if I'm going to use my new recipe books with the metric-only measurements then it's either a case of buy scales that I can actually read or go through all the recipes with a calculator and a pencil and convert it all to imperial!0 -
these are good scales, when they work
i have been using my postal scales, but when i saw the ones i just got i HAD to have them
the ones you are looking at are nice small sleek scales,
i contacted salter, twice but they never got back to me0 -

My current ones are cheaper ones from Woolworths and although they work, the 'bowl' that came with them is cracked on both sides and isn't very big so I have to weigh larger amounts in stages! I can put another bowl on top, but they're so small, it's hard to balance without getting covered in flourmidnightraven3 wrote: »those ones are the ones i am replacing

I read through all the reviews on Amazon and out of about 120, 90 were good and the only negative comments I found were about the battery/battery life, so it's not just you!
Can you remove the batteries when it's not in use? I think this would be what i'd do if you can as I hardly use mine.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
