Help please! Vodafone and K850i problems

I got my Sony Ericsson K850i back in October 2007 - I'm on contract with Vodafone and this was an upgrade phone (had had the K800i before - brilliant!!).

Anyway, rang them within the first 14 days as the camera was playing up but was assured that software would be being updated and it would 'sort itself out'.

However..............I am now on my 3rd phone as I have had the follwing problems with each one:

Regularly switches itself off
When on a call the phone will answer an incoming thereby putting the initial call on hold (don't want to switch off call waiting as I need it)
The buttons freeze
Screen crashes regularly

Had 3rd phone delivered last Wednesday really hoping that it wouldn't play up - within 2 hrs it had started

Have rung Vodafone today who say there 'is nothing they can do because it is out of its 14 day period' and that if they did swop it for a lesser (!!!) model then it would cost them money!

Told them that the phone is not of merchantible quality.

I also asked what I should do if they send me another one of the same model and it goes wrong again - apparently for the rest of the 18 month contract (now 12 months left) if my phone goes wrong I just have to keep exchanging it!!! So, that means inconvenience for me and extra cost for Vodafone for delivery charges etc.

I am so mad - what would you do?

I sympathise with you, I was having mega problems with a Samsung U600 - again on a 18 Month contract, sent for repair - no different etc. Anyway cutting a long story short I went to our local Vodafone Shop, explained all the problems I had been having (its all documented on the system anyway) and told them that I was really not happy at having to have such a useless Phone for the rest of my contract!! The outcome of this being that the guy in the shop made some phonecalls and eventually agreed that I could swap my U600 for a SE 770i - for a fee - this cost was added to my next monthly bill, insurance sorted out and phone working out of the box. No problems since with my SE770i - nice little phone.

Moral of this tale is - go into your local Vodafone store and speak to someone face to face - you are more likely to get more action - they wouldn't want you making a fuss in store now would they!

Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you decide to do.:D

    Hi,

Working for Vodafone myself I'm sorry to hear of the problems you've had so far. Three repairs and being told it will 'sort itself out' (re: the software) is unacceptable. If you have no luck in store I'd highly recommend you contact our team who monitor customer queries on the internet - then we can take action internally. If you wanted to get in touch you could go to the Vodafone contact us form, select email, then fill in the relevant fields (even leave a link back to this thread where we'd get the full story from). Make sure you leave the short code FIT135 in the body of your email as this would send you through to our team.

I'm aware that there was an issue with the K850i when accessing the inbox on the handset that required a software upgrade, although this should really have been solved when you've been sending the phone off for previous repairs. If you did get in touch with us via email you could also let us know which version of software you have running on the handset. To do this enter the following
    1. Scroll Right. Press *
    2. Scroll Left
    3. Scroll Left. Press *
    4. Scroll Left. Press *
    5. Scroll to Service Info. Press "Select".
    6. Scroll to Software Info. Press "Select".

By getting in touch with us we can look at taking some action and getting this sorted out for you.

  • I am having a very similar problem with the SAME phone but with O2 - I am now awaiting my 4th replacement! It's a tough one, because I love the phone - the main selling point for me is the camera... I can't face downgrading but these problems are unbeliveable!!

I kicked off with vodafone after having a dodgy k850i phone and a dodgy replacement last november. they offered me a new model from a list but they were all lower spec so i kicked off again saying why would i have not chosen those in the first place? the only other phone on the market was a nokia n95 8gb so eventually i argued for one of those. i had to go in store to collect it as i refused to wait a week. good luck!

if you have any problems with the phone, i would always try a software update via the SE update service before sending it off for repair

i have a nokia n70 which i use on o2. it has recently stopped me sending videos, even if there only a few secs long. anybody have any ideas what the prob might be? i rang o2 all they said is that it could be my sim card.

I would try a new sim card before another new handset if your sim card is over 18 months old. we have had loads of customer's that have had 'faulty' handsets and advisors just kept sending out replacements and when we checked again the customer's sim card was an old one. An older 2g sim card can cause problems with using the newer handsets specially if the handsets are 3g
i'm not saying a new sim will solve all problems but its worth trying this before getting another handset
if problem persists maybe an idea to speak to sony ericsson rather than vodafone as they are the one that have put the warranty on the handset

Thanks for feedback everyone - been a bit busy over last couple of weeks so haven't managed to get letter to Vodafone off yet but will endeavour to make it a priority next week and let you all know how the battle goes!
