hi
my daughter and sister and 6 others, were due to fly to new york last night.
But there flight from manchester down to london was delayed, ba put them on another flight, but this was also delayed, and they only arrived in london at 7.00pm
the ba flight left london for new york last night on time at 7.30pm
ba put them up in a ibis hotel, and transfered the 8 passengers to a kuwati flight this afternoon.
which departed for new york at 3.00pm
But i received a text of my sister just before boarding, to say that my daughters suitcase is not on the flight, it has been lost.
So basically she only has the clothes she has on her.
Can anyone help me as to what to advise them to do.
Does she buy clothes and keep the receipts and get a suitcase.
when or what does she do about the luggage, does she go to lost luggage when she gets to new york.
Also last night, they had to buy stuff from boots, ie toothbrush, toothpaste etc as they had none of this stuff with them.
They come home on tuesday night.
i know it's not a massive thing, but she is only a kid, and she bought some nice new clothes from new look to take with her, i feel so sorry for her. (just a mum being a bit soft) sorry.

OUCH! No fun at all!!
Last time I went to the US 1 of my suitcases was delayed and they told me that I wouldn't get it til the next day. They gave me $100 to buy anything I needed to get me thru until my suitcases arrived so your daughter should have gotten money ESPECIALLY since they lost her suitcase!
What I do these days IN CASES it's lost...I put my address on a piece of paper inside it just in case

thanks for that, where should she go to get her money from to buy some clothes.0

That's unfortunate... I'm always glad to see my case at baggage collection. Some airlines would give payments (one-off) to cover buying underwear etc as up until 21 days it would only be considered delayed and after then lost, others might pay a certain amount daily upto a few days but it would only be to cover essential items. Don't know if it would be best trying BA desk or lost luggage. Nightmare.MFiT-T6: #38

Well..with my experience..as soon as I went to the desk to say I was missing my suitcase they knew who I was right away and had the envelope ready and all I had to do was fill out a paper to give the address I was staying at so they could deliver my suitcase to me the next day BUT you have to also remember airlines have their own set of rules.
Also, if she has travel insurance...she maybe able to make a claim with them too.
She needs to contact the airlines right away though.

which airline desk would she go to,
her original flight was with ba, but they transfered them to kuwait airlines
they never got there cases back last night when they were at heathrow.
Well she didnt' take much as she wanted to buy some stuff over there, so i guess if she doesn't get her case back she'll be able to fill a case so to speak.
But her glasses are in the case, she wore her lenses for flying in.
I just want to text them, to tell them what to do and where to go when they arrive at new york.
thanks all0 -
Well being her original airlines was BA..she should call them first atleast since they were the ones who changed their flights etc.
It doesn't matter how much lugguage she had. they shouldn't have lost it to begin with
You're paying money to not only fly but for your luggage too so it should get there safely.
Ask her if she has travel insurance too and also, whatever she buys to KEEP the slips!

Yes they do have travel insurance. Would never consider going anywhere without it.
I've just spoken to someone at ba, and they have told me to tell, them to go to the ba desk, fill our a report, and they can ask for some money to tide them over, but can't say if they will get it.
if not then keep receipts for anything that she has needed to buy.
he says that cases ususlly turn up 24 hours later, so she maybe able to wear her nice dress for the paddys day party she is going on.
thanks all0 -
Hi
At least clothes are pretty cheap in NYC; tell her to get a few items, and enjoy herself. My first time in NYC I was bumped off the flight, and when I got there they had given my room away. I would rather have had no clothes to wear then no room to sleep in. Got it sorted in the end - but don't let the experience put her off; its too fabulous out there to waste time worrying.0 -
