Complaint AA Breakdown Renewal without notification

I had the same problem - I wrote an angry email to Customer Services, and copied in their Chief Exec. Got a reply the next day and a full refund, so it seems that if it's a low enough amount (mine was only £60ish) that they'll refund you to avoid the hassles.0

I find this whole thread very disturbing. I had my renewal yesterday and have it by the phone ready to call and cancel today. One of my problems is that they do not indicate how they plan to take payment.
People talk a lot about emailing and writing.
I have looked on the AA web site, but cannot find an address to write to, can anyone help with that?
Thanks

IMHO The ONLY way to cancel is by letter sent by recorded delivery. I don't trust people in call centres who may by working for multiple organisations (don't know if this is the case with The AA) The dead giveaway being when you know more than they do about the product or service they are providing.
Most outsourcers will still only deal with one company at a time (in the UK anyway) - doesn't mean they need to give a sh*t about the customer though0 -
..and so it goes. Member since '83. 1st May Renewal £210:00 reduced to £129:00 on the usual phone call. As yet no money debited at all even though they insist my account has been debited on 1st May and I am covered....Oh - and they have sent me 3 sets of cards over three different renewal letters. Think I may have to cancel my D.D. now just in case....0

is that all you can say ! , or are we still victims of our own success :rotfl:0

This happened to us last week. We cancelled AA Breakdown last year, and the AA charged us for this year on the credit card and took it over the limit with an over limit fee of £12.
But - we phoned them up and they sorted it straight away and refunding us for the £12 over limit fee too.
After reading all the posts from over the years I was really worried that we would be screwed. Also, our credit card provider took the over limit bit off our credit reports/score because it wasn't our fault.
Perhaps the AA have been warned0 -
Hopefully all auto renwals will start to be policed properly.
The more that get reported to the FOS, and/or the FSA for breaking the rules, the fairer and better it will be for the customer.0 -
Rubbish company, use only if you want to be ripped off. Basic cover doubled after 1st year phoned up got it reduced to £35. told better to pay with debit card so paid up. Yet they still took the £70 out of my bank account. Phoned up and told it will take 21 days to pay me back. Rip off or what.0

Similar experience - received a letter to quote £210 for renewal. Rang up to query why it was only £170 for a new member, and I'd be switching to the RAC (£160). AA offered to match the RAC quote on the basis I'd had no claims over the last couple of years. Was actually debited the £170, but still a bit of a result.
Sure we need to make sure we're not being ripped off, but it's disappointing that an organisation like the AA have no compulsions about chancing an extra £40 from long standing members0
