So you was on aol broadband but now your switching over to sky broadband?
Your aol broadband worked but when you moved to sky it now doesn't?
If both of those statements are true then don't you find it odd how sky have now found a problem when aol didn't?
yes i agree it does seem odd ,but i have had aol for years im leaving them as the speed and connection issues, but at least i did have bb, i was told that aol and sky use the same equipment in the exchange. the other stange thing is when i asked sky if bb was available sky said my exchange was full,a few days later i asked again and there was space,so i argreed to sign up,if all the places were taken just before me,how come that space is now faulty?? weird eh?0 -
Ah now that makes slightly more sense.
I guess your not having the connect package which means sky will be putting you on there hardware in the exchange rather then bt's which uses the connect package.
If that's the case then I guess its quite possible that there is a genuine fault.
People come and go all the time so in some respects your got lucky getting a space but are unlucky that its faulty.0 -
i have had nothing but trouble with sky had to wait for ages to get connected then since connection i have never seen the full speed that i am supposed to get i signed up for the 16 mb package an the highestit has ever reached is 4. something, i was then told that a standerd BT line can only hold around 8mb everytime i speak to sky they say it is a problem on bt's line but bt tell me that i have a perfect line and sky should have no probs sending the full 8mb down cut along story short sky are crap in my case anyway0

Your AOL service would have been connected via BT's equipment, Sky have their own in your exchange for the base mid and max packages, this does involve a physical change of cabling.
In my case sadly it took them 3 months to fix it.
To the poster complaining about speeds, its often the case that your internal wiring can affect this.
There are a number of threads on wwwskyuser.co.uk that can help with this. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you moan to BT about your line stating ADSL speed is the issue BT will just tell you the line is fine as all they care about at that point is telephony. They will not tell you if you have noise on the line, low power returns etc. Sky can see issues including data error on the line data transmission so you may find that your line is either unstable above the speed that you are getting or your internal wiring is causing issues.0

That might not be true as aol also use there own hardware in certain exchanges.
Twisted1 just because you signed up for the 16meg package that does not mean you will get 16meg.
It all depends on how far you live from your exchange and the quality of your phone line.
Your best of sticking your number in here and it will give you a good guide into what speed you can actually get on your line.

i would like to cancel sky...but if i put my phone number onto another suppiers website it says i have something on my line thats incompatable with bb....it said phone your phone supplier and ask them to remove it off the line first...i also have sky talk and they say the lines fine...im just stuck. cannot get sky bb and cannot go to anyone else.:mad:0

Sky will have a tag on the line, till you cancel sky and the tag is removed you cannot go elsewhere unless you call Sky and ask for a MAC code.0
-
Yes as they will have put a tag on when you asked to start taking their service. Call up and tell them you are no longer wanting to take the ADSL service and that you want any tags removing from the line or a MAC Code to prove you are ok to migrate to another provider.0
