Sky relies on BT engineers going into exchanges on the correct date, if you are not active by the time you get up this morning, ring Sky and ask for order status (think its one of the call steering options on the main broadband number), order status can tell you what has happened to the activation date. If AOL is still active on the line then either AOL has not removed its service from the line or BT just have not got to the exchange yet.0

Up and running yet?
Lost my broadband for three months due to BT's incompetence at the exchange, hopefully you wont suffer that one. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

i still have no sky bb today..aol said i am not with them and sky cannot connect me. i phoned bt to check the line and they said aol still might have a tag on the line will take 24 hours to remove.so again i phoned sky and they say they are looking into it..so in the meantime aol kindly offered me free dail up which is better than nothing.0 -
I recently joined Sky, the connection date was spot on and I've had no problems in the week I've been with them.I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0

Hi,
I had the same problems finishing with AOL and connecting with SKY Broadband, firstly sky said AOL still had a 'tag' on the line, so until that had been removed they could not do anything, so after having several phone calls with AOL and SKY i didnt get anywhere, so i contacted BT, who said that the line was free (no tag) so there was no reason why SKY could not connect me. To cut a very long story short after several telephone conversations with SKY and not getting anywhere and promised several times an engineer was going to connect me i wrote a letter to SKY and complained about the trouble i was having, within a week i was connected and have had no trouble since.0 -

im still on slow dial up..i have phoned sky loads of times and get different answers every time.the latest excuse is there is a faulty bit in the exchange, the bit that connects my line to skys equipment..and they dont know how long its going to take to get it fixed.:mad:0 -
after a week and a bit (should have been the 13th) im still waiting to be connected, sky now say its a faulty tie pair, dont know if thats spelt right, but they are supposed to be getting bt to repair it,nobody is getting back to me or telling me when i might get connected. does anyone know anything about the tie pair thing they are refering to??0

The tie pair is the name for the wiring in the exchange that connects your line to Sky's DSLAM (digital service line access multiplex), and the BT telephone exchange.
Its similar to the way the line is split by the microfilter at your home.
The work has to be done by BT, but has to be requested by Sky, its normally the Tier 3 guys at Sky that do this. They will request BT to perform a Tie Pair Shift, i.e move your broadband connection to another port on the DSLAM.
Be persistent but polite and also request refunds from them for telephone calls, lack of service etc.
PS: This article tells you how its all done:

Thanks.
do you know how long bt take to repair it?? nobody can give me an answer when it will be fixed, sky keep saying we have esclated it to another dept.
they said no refund is due as i dont pay until the line is active. i cannot have my £30 connection fee back either...if i do they will cancel the order..it doesnt seem fair does it?0 -
So you was on aol broadband but now your switching over to sky broadband?
Your aol broadband worked but when you moved to sky it now doesn't?
If both of those statements are true then don't you find it odd how sky have now found a problem when aol didn't?0
