Advice on best toothpaste please

I was considering getting a whitening toothpaste, but decided against it but want to make sure I'm using a very good toothpaste and mouthwash - any recommendations?

Whichever toothpaste you likethe taste of, providing it has a decent level of fluoride in it and don't bother with a mouthwash.

Oh, ok - so I take it then that all these toothpastes that claim to do super duper things are all much of a muchness...?

I asked my hygienist about mouthwashes and she said that they are ok, the important thing is the physical action of brushing and flossing. So don't worry too much about mouthwash but get some floss (or dental tape)

Tescos own Total Care (inc Whitening) won the Which? report some months ago and I find it very good. I use mouthwash at the mo as I have two exposed nerves and it seems to keep the pain away (prob by removing more bacteria/baddies) I use Plax and its nice, but I've never bothered before now.

I remember someone on here saying they'd paid to see the hygenist at the dentsit - it can be expensive but it was the best thing they'd ever done to maintain oral hygiene.

My NHS dentist advised me to get use this product because I seem to be prone to decay. The practice sell a 75ml tube for £7.50.

The local small branch of Boots stock it (prescription only), useful if you're entitled to free prescriptions. It doesn't have to be a private prescription (contrary to what I've read elsewhere)... my NHS dentist wrote a prescription and Boots gave me the toothpaste.

My son also hates mint, toothpaste, gum, mints!
I was amazed when I stumbled upon this thread, I have exactly the same problem!
I'm off to Boots at the weekend - no more standing staring at the shelves in the Supermarket willing a non mint flavoured tube to jump out at me!

It does make you wonder though, why all UK brands are mint flavoured and why?
The green tea and jasmine tea ones from Hong Kong sound lovely!

My local 99p shop sells Colgate Herbal. It contains myrrh, eucalyptus, camomile, and sage and is definitely not minty!

As the thread's been resurrected, I can report that after a brief flirtation with the Boots mint + flavours, we ran out and DS2 joined the rest of us in using grown up MacLeans. He also likes mints to eat. Best of all, he now showers daily and does not smell! :rotfl:
