im still on the valeda mop with the stringy type head
  • Hi, I had this problem and also I had no where to store a mop bucket all the time. I kept it just at the back door but then couldn't bring myself to use it without giving it a good scrub, which I could never be bothered to do, so I just never mopped.

Then I bought a steam mop made by Light and Easy, (I've been a long time reader but never posted before so I don't know if I'm allowed to say where it's from, but I got it cheap from a wholesalers). Now I don't need a mop bucket or cleaners and takes just a few minutes to mop the kitchen, bathroom, hall and living room, they're all laminate.

PS, thank you everyone for all your advice and lovely posts. I just wish my friends were more OS, they think I'm mad when I just want to talk about all the new things I am learning.

    Hi hardpressed,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to an earlier one that may help.

This thread may be useful too:

what do you use to clean your kitchen floor?

    Hello all,
I need to get a new floor cleaner (dog has completely destroyed the old one…) and wondered what you all use. I have mostly laminate floor downstairs plus some vinyl and lots of muddy footprints and animal hair to pick up. I have been using a vileda magic mop which did the job but the refills are expensive so I wondered what alternatives might be better.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I use a stringy mop head (from Wilko's) with a really good Vileda bucket (the one that extra squeezes the mop head)

If you keep two mop heads, you can periodically wash one - they last ages :) We, too, have laminate floors and a house ful of pets.....some of whom are half way through their annual major moult....grr.....

    Hi,

Our bathroom, toilet and kitchen have vinyl flooring which I either sweep or vacuum, vacuuming is better in the bathroom - (fluff from towels and hairs - Mine, I loose hair at an alarming rate)

Then I mop with an old fashoned string type and bucket. I've got flash floor cleaner at the moment - must have been on offer :D

I also use this on our oak (I think its oak - it was already in the house) woodern floor, no problems.

I've never used the magic mops so can't help with those.

Thanks both, I guess there's a reason that I generally see professional cleaners using string mops. It sounds like a good bucket is the key, I thought they may leave the floor too wet.

I do vac day to day to get the worst of the hair although I regularly threaten to knit a spare dog with what I find on the floor, there would definitely be enough...

    Hi,

No the floor isn't too wet. As long as you get a squezzy bucket, IYKWIM

I've noticed that if you use a good branded cleaner, like flash rather than Daisy (Tesco's) as I normally use, then the floor might look mightly shiny and therefore very wet. But I think its just something added to Flash and the like to make shiny look more clean. :D;)
  • Mop refills two for a pound in poundland. One string and one strip. Does the job; why pay more?
