How long do they last before you have to re-fill them with water again?
DD gave me a hand held one free with a vacume cleaner offer she brought & it's ok, wouldn't call it great. I thought it would be good on tiles etc but weak bleach & a toothbrush does a way better job without all the flaffling around. :rolleyes:Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Does using a steam mop mean that the walls etc get covered with condensation? I've always thought that they sound great for cleaning, but worry about ending up having to dry off the walls and windows etc every time I use it.0

Oh dear,I think I need a steam mop now,I shouldn't have looked at this thread.
I like the idea of freshening up my carpets with it too.
Ooh,can I justify buying one, this is supposed to be a money saving site :undecided0 -
It arrived yesterday!!:j
Tried it on my kichen floor and I'm impressedIt heated up quickly, the floor looks clean (it must be 'cos the cloth was black  ) and it only took 5 minutes! Planning to do all my floors tomorrow, carpets as well, Oh, I do like a new gadget :T

I bought a Flash Power Mop thing in my pre-MSE days. They handle well and I like the swivel head and the pads that suck the liquid up.
But, instead of buying more batteries and more of the flash power mop refills, I now use a spray bottle with diluted stardrops. I squirt that on the floor and then use the mop with the pads to clean and soak up the excess
I bought a job lot of pads when they were at Mr T's on offer...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

After years of washing my floors the proper way!, on my hands and knees. I have decided to succumb to the easier route and buy myself a mop. This is in the vain hope that I might do it more often, with 2 dogs constantly in and out the garden my kitchen floor is always dirty. Anyone who owns a dog will know exactly what I mean.
Anyway, I'm hoping some of you can recommend a good, hopefully cheap, type for me...not sure whether to go for a spongy type or a more traditional type or any other type there might be out there. Preferably one that makes life easy and won't need replacing too often!
Thanks in advanceThere is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0 -
I've tried all different types of mop over the years, sponge/microfibre/supersqueegee etc but I always end up going back to ye olde string mop & bucket. Nothing else seems to clean as well and they're also great for getting into all the little nooks & crannies like down the side of the cooker.Dum Spiro Spero0

I recently bought a mop from Lakeland, it has a triangular microfibre head and it can be used wet or dry (as a duster). The head is washable and I have only used it dry so far, but it worked beautifully, it was thin enough to clean under the dresser and picked up all the hairs that my two cats leave around. I washed it in the machine and it looks like new.
From the success of the "dry run" I think it would be good wet too but cannot say for sure, as I haven't used it that way yet. Going to try it wet today, though as I am spring cleaning the bathroom (which has awkward corners to be reached) and will let you know.

From the reviews you can see that it is not good for everybody, but so far having used it only the once I haven't found any problems. Will update after bathroom use. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I too have a pooch - an all white jack russell - and the floor in his room is black tiles so hair is my biggest annoyance as well as him being a rescue dog who is prone to mishaps if startled.
I have tried sponge ones but found if i scrubbed too hard then they broke easily or the sponge came away
I tried a JML super squidgy one and after one use it dried rock solid so needed binning.
I would stick to the string and bucket method although sure i saw on kim and aggy that you should have two buckets - one to squeeze dirty water into and one of clean to wash with - makes sense thoughTime to find me again0 -
Looks like stringy type is winning so far:rotfl:There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0
