OS Daily Thursday 13th March 08

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 13th March. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning.

I have not started one of these for a while. Despite finishing work at midnight, I woke up at 6 feeling refreshed.

I see that budget day was a complete waste of time. I am no better or worse off really. The biggest laugh was ther tax on booze to prevent binge drinking.
So a 2 litre bottle of cider goes up by 6p. Yeah that will stop teens getting !!!!!!. :rolleyes2

Yet the decent bloke that likes a tipple of glen whatever in the evening will be hit hard....

Anyway. Work at 2pm today, it looks damp outside and I need to do some work out there. hmm. Packed lunches, bin day and tidy house. The work. Sounds like a blast does'nt it.

Have a nice day.... Cheers
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

    Where is everyone this morning??

Morning N9eav and all who follow. Hope the insomniacs got some sleep.

(((Smokybabe))) I hope no news is good news for DH.

Face/Eyes still a mess from eyebrow wax - the price we pay for vanity:o .

Must try to tackle some of the paper in here, spent all last night (in between the TV) trying to get a reasonable quote for car insurance. After insuring us and ds for a year, after I made some small changes bringing occupations up to date etc., MoreThan said they could not cover ds, I asked why they said his age, but they insured us last year and he was a year younger:confused: . Maybe as it is now he is working and workers are more of a risk than students:rolleyes: . So much for being honest.

Scuzz - still after a minidisc player? Don't panic over the flat as long as you keep it even if there is a blip it will come out the other side, it is those trying to make a fast buck who are going to lose out, or anyone who cannot manage and have to sell, breakups, etc.,

Yes agree the budget is a farce, though I do not think prices will change the binge drinkers, I drank sillily at times when younger and I am sure our DS did at uni and since, but never caused chaos or beat anyone up. Afraid it still goes back to parenting or lack of it, and they will have no skills to be parents too and so it goes round. He is just trying to get easy money, and I see they poking their fingers in education again.

Right off to do something (if only make my first coffee) see some of you later.
((((hugs)))) to those poorly, poorly family, down, or would just like one. and Hi to everyone else.
    Take care - DG

Morning N9eav and all who follow

Back at work today after taking yesterday off sick. Feel better for a rest. 10 days without a day off is a long time!!

Watched the budget and can't say I'm impressed. My Nan had her pension update through yesterday and in honour of her age, she's getting wait for it......25p a week extra:mad: It's an insult. What are pensioners meant to do with that? Treat themselves to 25 penny sweets? With all what the Chancellor said, I'm worried now I've bought the flat. Feel like putting it straight back on the market.

Have left over sausages from last night's dinner in today's sandwiches. And I have no idea what's for dinner as I have to work this evening.

    Hope everyone's ok

    Morning

Lovely morning here in Staffordshire (sorry N9eav). Yesterday was a horrible day, the wind gusted all day, but finally died down last night. All the fence panels seem to have survived though :T

I've got a friend who runs a charity shop, and have promised to go in later to have a look at some things she thinks might be valuable, so Iif I'm not here tomorrow, we've found a Ming vase :D

Not sure what's for dinner, but think it might have chicken in it, and either pasta or rice for lunch.

Hope things are Ok with Smokey x

Morning all - late start on here today even though I woke up early again! Don't know where the last couple of hours went.

Like everyone else I was completely underwhelmed by the budget - same old, same old. 25p extra for a pensioner is disgusting. We don't look after our elderly, or at least, WE do - the Government doesn't. My Mum makes great use of her bus pass but, a couple of weeks ago, one of the drivers said to her 'Most people pay, you know'! She said it took her breath away. She's 77 years old. How dare he! If I'd been there I'd have had to say something. Anyway, last week she heard he'd got the sack - there had been loads of complaints from elderly people and mums who had struggled to get on with children and pushchairs and he had driven off before they'd got themselves sat down. Serves him right - he was definitely in the wrong job with 'people skills' like that!

Anyway, SCUZZ - I know it's a worrying time, especially with a new mortgage but, in the long term, your new home is an investment. Prices will eventually pick up.

SMOKY - thinking of you and your family. Hope there's been some improvement with your OH.

CSARINA - well done on your commissions! Keep us informed please!

My FIL had had tests and they now say that he has had a heart attack followed by an angina attack so he's having yet more tests. We'll just have to wait and see what the outcome is - he's beginning to regret having his pacemaker fitted about six weeks ago. He said he was fine before that even though his heartbeat had slowed to about 38 beats a minute.

DH has just left - eventually; he's a real pain to get organised in the morning even though I make him sort things out the night before!

Well, dinner tonight is what looks like a bacon joint I unearthed at the bottom of the freezer but don't know what to cook it with - probably chips. We don't have them often so it'll make a change. I shall make a bread-and-butter pudding for afters.

    CHURCHMOUSE - :hello: :hello: :hello:

BENTHOSBOY - Martyn, I hope you're feeling brighter today. Things will sort out themselves out for you but don't forget, we're here as one huge collective shoulder for you when you need it. We've all found support on here in times of need and this thread has certainly helped me a lot. I love my virtual friends!

Well, I'd better go and change the sheets - will clean the house through today (although the kitchen needs a bigger clean so I've planned that for next Monday!) and I want to to go to the gym this morning so I'd better get a wiggle on.

I'll call back in later - I still haven't found out the rules about using this forum to make our squares blanket to raise funds for charity - I'll do that later today. Yesterday turned into a manic afternoon and evening and I didn't get the time.

REDRUBY _ (((Hugs))) to your Mum - hope the lump is nothing to worry about.

Hope everyone has a great day. I only skimmed the rest of yesterday's thread so (((hugs))) to those in need.

A couple of long but interesting days training around domestic violence issues, very eye-opening.... Something to do with Children's Workforce Development Standards this morning (sounds soooo exciting, lol!!!) and then, finally, an afternoon in the office to catch up! But tomorrow a study day, so even better :)

Hope everyone has good days, take care all

  • Morning all,

Went for my first SW weigh in for a month and was very pleased with myself. My weight has stayed the same bang on target!:j Despite the new BREADMAKER:p
WM is on and I am feeling a bit better today. Yesterday It felt like everything I did was an effort, so I had an early night last night and had a good sleep and so feeling lots better this am.

The weather is not raining at the moment and the wind has died down so may even venture out on my bike this morning for some much needed fresh air.

((hugs)) and best wishes to everyone.

Hope you all have a good day.
