thanks for your replies. And yes i should of started a new topic.
very helpful. i will try to go into roms, i dont have a clue how to, but will try. Yes you are right it does not support data transfer, i do not understand why they sent me another phone, and why they could not tell me that their network does not support the firmware upgrade at the beginning???
regardless of the 28 days, i should of at least been told that the network does not support the update firmware. I am sure this is in breach of the goods of sale act because it states in the user manual how to update the firmware of the phone, this was not told to me by virgin until yesterday after many calls. Is that not misleading information which they should of explained??
i spoke to a manager yesterday and he told me that this phone is now discontinued by virgin and they will not release the new firmware.0 -
Raemon you need to raise this further with Virgin's Management when you ring them, you can't accept that they won't continue support for a feature that is always a necessity on the majority of phones.0

What Android version is the phone currently on? Samsung updated it as far as 2.1 update 1 so if that's what you've got, there is nothing you can really complain about to Virgin, it's not their fault Samsung refuse to update it.
You (apparently, I thought it was with Kies) use PC Studio to update the phone, so that should be able to tell you if there is anything available for you.0 -

Go back a few years and it was extremly rare any firmware got upgraded, the firmware on the phone was what you kept until you changed phone.
Unfortunatly with the exception of Apple and Google (directly to the Nexus only) vendors genereally don't update firmeware much once the phone is out the door and on the market.
Sony announced that only the latest handsets they have (the x8) will get an upgrade to the next version of Android, HP have just announced most of the sold Palm Pre/Pixi phones will not get an upgrade to the version 2 of WebOS.
Other vendors (like HTC) may issue upgrades but generally you'll get one or two version and thats it, and as you found out once the carrier ceases to support it you'll get no more.
Again the issue is if this feature (working or not) is so needed why did the OP not notice and report it in the first 28 days.0 -
hi all Ive posted before regarding an issue with t mobile i got some good response and took there
advice. I took out a contract unlimited texts 700 mins lol dec2009
Last year in Aug they started charging me for texts said my allowance was 400 texts. I have the original contract so they cant wriggle out of this i thought. After many phone calls, e-mails, shop visits yes it was getting sorted money would be refunded texts back on still nothing then said i was going to post on twitter lol. They rang back within an hour in DEC, said my money would be refunded back to bank and unlimited texts are now back on they were. Last months bill arrived long behold they are now charging me for the unlimited texts but as a bolt on at 10 pound per month. What a joke i am entitled to them its in black/white. I have finally sent them a letter to head office and asked for a deadlock letter. It is going to be interesting what they reply. Thank you for reading.0 -
Hi, what was the length of the contract? I took out an 18 month contract with T-Mobile that appeared to be 700 mins and unlimited texts, however the unlimited texts turned out to be an offer for the 18 months only, as soon as the 18 months contract was up it reverted back to what the actual contract was of 700 mins and 400 texts. !!0

Thank You Keith, no it was a 24 mth contract through cpw they have the same contract info as me yet apparently according to t mobile it had all ways been 400 texts. T mobile was blaming them but i said i received a letter headed t mobile with same pay plan 21.00 plus vat it couldn't be there fault. I'm unsure were to go next but ill wait on head office decision i suppose. I have been in t mobiles forum etc and got no where so hopefully i will now i sent copies x fingers crossed. Thank You.0

Hi, I see what you mean now- that part way through the first year they suddenly start charging you when you go over 400 texts. If you previously had not been charged for 400+ texts and you have it in writing from CPW and also in writing from T-Mobile then I think it can only be some kind of computer glitch that their CS cannot understand. I think you have taken the right action, writing to the CEO of a company usually gets results- Good luck.0

Tell them you're moving abroad:
terminating your Contract because Orange is no longer able to provide access to the Network
4.4 If, for reasons beyond our control, we are no longer able to provide the Services, we will at our discretion either:
4.4.1 make arrangements for you to be supplied with equivalent Services by another network at no extra cost to you, or
4.4.2 accept written notice from you that you wish to terminate your Contract. In such cases we will refund any pre-paid Charges that have not been used up.0 -

The best way I have found to get through to many large companies now is to find them on Twitter. I've contact Lenovo, Rovio (Angry Birds), Virgin Media and Three on Twitter to name a few. In fact tweeting Three can get you a call back from the executive office within the week - that's how I was released from my contract!0
