Most certainly.
Postal Orders are my favourite method for safety because once you have the money its yours and there is nothing the seller can do to get it back.
Paypal will shaft you at any given opportunity, if the address is not confirmed and the payment is not marked as eligable for seller protection then the buyer can do a chargeback (if funded by credit card), or say they have not received the item and paypal will give them their money back and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it meaning you don't have the money or the item.
The only people who benefit from Paypal are buyers.
Saying that, if the address is confirmed and the transaction is marked as eligable, then you will get your money from Paypal in disputes as long as you have sent the item via special delivery... But how many people send all their items by special delivery? Not many, you'd lose out on buyers if you charged SD postage on everything.
You get more sales by offering Paypal, but you also leave yourself open to being shafted.0 -
I'm waiting from £110 from one buyer - She seemed really keen to talk to me when I was listing things and telling her when they'd be going live - Now I want the money, she hasn't emailed me...!
Packing: I've got a fool-proof (!) plan - I hate it, so my Mum packs for me and I list her stuff for her as she hates listing... I'm NEVER moving out!!!0 -
I had some auctions finish yesterday but only 6 of them had bids and that amount came to less than £30. Good news though as 5 of them have paid already and so I've sent them today.
Reading other threads regarding the buyer receiving the item, I always send my items by either recorded delivery or international signed for. I had a buyer last week ask if an item had been posted as he hadn't received it. Firstly he sent a cheque (Wednesday) and emailed me the following Tuesday. I had actually sent the item via recorded delivery and sent him the tracking number and told him Royal Mail had tried to deliver it but he was out. I got positive feedback today saying he'd received it
Sorry to waffle on but for my peace of mind I ALWAYS send via some sort of tracking post.Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £151.04 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
The thing is though, sending via recorded delivery will not cover you in a Paypal dispute everytime as sometimes it shows as not eing delivered on track and trace, Special Delivery should always cover you, so your not really any better off than if you just send via normal first class delivery.
I always obtain proof of postage so that if anything does go missing, I can claim from Royal Mail, if your item is worth less than £36 then this is just as good as sending recorded.0 -
Another £8.50 to add. Also I noticed about the free gallery from 19th May to September sometime£23366/ £39206.92 DFD Nov 20160

Sold all but two items last night. At silly prices though but hey that's what you get for ending a listing at 23.50 on a sunday night lol - I even had one winner email me today saying she can't believe how much she paid for the item as she expected ferocious competition!
Think I am going to stop offering paypal as an option though as that just eats even more into the money.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
Only problem with not offering Paypal though is that it also eats into your potential market. It is, unfortunately, a necessary evil.0

Well, this month I've got to get the car serviced, MOT'd and taxed so any money I make from ebay will be going on that instead of paying off my debts
But hey, thank heavens for ebay eh??Sealed Pot challenge #59SPC5 total £473.600 -
Just sold a dress for £29.99 - I added a bit on to what it's worth just to see if anyone would buy it... I didn't expect that to sell, so once she's paid, I can update my sig.
Has anyone else had a boost in their sales in the past week? I presumed it would go down as everyone's sunning themselves in the garden, maybe they take their laptops now!0 -

Sorry for butting in on your thread (I have been reading from afar and trying join in the challenge but spend too much time reading the messages rather than listing!)..
eBay are bringing it in that you have to offer Paypal on all your listings - there are lots of concerns about this on the eBay board especially on collect only items where dodgy buyers can pay by Paypal, collect the item and then claim they 'have not received it'. The exception I believe is where you are selling a car.
