£100 less?
Good grief, what've you got, gold-plated wiring?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

If it's less than you been paying dial 150 option 2 and tell them you want a better deal. When they offer to match it tell them your been paying more and want a refund, They will then ofer you free extras like call barring and voice mail etc.
There's an even £480 saving in a post by knuckledragger here

Thanks for the prompt everyone!
I phoned NTL, and was very pleasant. I said that I had seen that I could get cheaper line rental with believe it or not BT, but I really didn't want to leave them, and as I had been such a loyal customer for so many years, is there anything they could do for me?
I got offered £5 off my broadband for 6 months, which only works out at £30, so then I asked what phone package I was on, he looked around, then said instead I could have half price line rental and tv for 3 months. I asked for 6 months, and he laughed at me, and agreed!
Saving worth over £90 over 6 months :j
Hooray!

I had family pack reduced from £19.50 to £9.75 for 6 months (see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1409709&postcount=262 - offer for existing customers) and a few months ago secured 1MB BB for their £9.99/month offer (for new customers) for 12 months. I am happy with this as although the 3 for £30 (£33) offer is good, it only included the base television which did not include the channels we want.
Result? Bill has been reduced from £47.99 to £30.24 for 6 months, then £39.99 (£180 saving over the year), assuming I don't secure other offers when the family pack offer expires.
In all cases I was pleasant (as were they!) and did not threaten to leave - I just noted that I had seen the offer and wondered whether it could be applied to my account. When I tried the retentions department number at the top of this thread it had some mention of the number no longer being in use and redirecting you to call their main customer services number - 0800 052 2000 - I don't know if anyone has a different number for retentions? The BB offer was secured talking to them, the family pack offer from normal customer services.
There may be other deals secured - please keep posting them here as it is useful to know what flexibility they have (on their system) when negotiating.
Good luck

Thanks everyone!
Just got my broadband reduced to £11.99 for 3 months, then £14.99 rather than £17.99 and got my essential tv package half price for 3 months.
This saves me £8.25 a month for 3 months, and he said phone back in 3 months and see what we can do again then!

I have been an ntl customer for about 8 years, and inspired by reading through all these posts yesterday, I gave them a call on 150 #2 (Package Changes) and asked if they could do anything as I was wanting to reduce my outgoings. I currently have 2mb broadband, and the Digital TV Family Pack (with Disney) and standard phone package. They have given me a 30 day free trial of Talk Unlimited, which I have asked to be reduced to Talk Unlimited Local at £2 per month after the trial. This should mean that all my calls will be free as I only use at evenings and weekends, to local numbers anyhow.:D
Also, as a loyalty discount, and as a result of the packages I currently have, I have been given a permanent £13.00 discount a month. Woohoo!!!
Go on, make that call - you've got nothing to lose. I didn't even have to threaten to leave - just asked if they could help lower my bills. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far. :TOnly 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

Wanted to see what NTL could do for me as I am completely on cable. I rang and quoted the following
Broadband - Madasafish 13.99 (current best broadband) , but with decent anti-virus at 24.99 which is free with NTL it is £16.07 / month.
Line rental - Post Office 9.99, but with £50 cash back it works out as £5.82 / month.
TV - Sky 4 months 1/2 price at £21/month works out at £17.50 / month.
Total cost £39.40
After much holding on the line the best they could do was 1mb BB unlimited, talk unlimited local & line rental and Family TV pack £41.49 / month compared to £47.99 I am paying currently, a saving of £78 / year, but still £25 more than I could get with my best of the best. I could have wrangled a better deal, but I only want a quick saving now as I am waiting to see what Sky HDTV and the increase in BB speed does to marketplace. So, I will wait and see and I could still leave them in a few months time anyway unless they do a good deal then.0 -
I am paying £17.99 for 1M BB and £10.50 for telephone. I don't need the telephone cause I use voip on via the BB. Ntl seem to be super keen to keep their customer's phone revenue whereas I just want BB and maybe add tv. Anyone think I have a chance if I ask them to swop the phone for the family pack tv (normally £19.50)? Nah I don't think so either.0

Not happy with NTL, someone put the dicount I was offered on as a different discount, but it worked out as the same price so I wasn't bothered. Then they removed it it has taken many calls to correct it and no appology. They have eventually agreed to honor the price I was paying for another 6 months but thats in. Will be looking else where, as I have had enough of their poor customer service.0
