No, I was a niave first time buyer and hadn't a clue. Haven't heard of anyone up here who has done that, but can see now it would be really stupid not to :o

Either way though, the tenant wasn't getting every set of keys. But then he can be abroad for 3/6 weeks at a time working, so incase of emergencies plumbers etc can get in if he's away. Everybody's circumstances are different.

yes, each tenant is different, and you approach each "customer" (for that is what they are) in the best way for them

  • Right, I thought I would keep you all posted....

I have written to the landlady asking for details of where our deposit is being held. I sent this a couple of days ago.

By happy coincidence  I ran into her in the supermarket last night. She proceeded to remind me about the carpet (we are to put a rug in front of the sofa to put our feet on to prevent marks - can't remember if I told you about that). I then decided to stop her talking by bombarding her with things so off I went...

Found out that the deposit is held on a stakeholder account with the original letting agents - they also did the move in inventory so I am slightly more hopeful that we will get some ££ back.

I then told her that the gas cooker is making funny noises, clicking as if it is trying to light every now and again. She told me that it was probably because one of our boyfriend's had flooded it - unlikely neither of us have one of them! Anyhow to be sorted during gas inspection next week.

Water pressure is messed up and randomly fires water at you so she can sort that too.

She then went on to say that she wanted to do another inspection. I told her that she was breaching our quiet enjoyment by doing so, she has had her one inspection for this 6 months. I have asked her to get back to me, in writing, to confirm the location of the deposit and the dates in which repair people will require access for all of the 'problems', most of which I wouldn't have bothered with if it wasn't for her annoying approach.

    Phew - we shall see.

In relation to changing the locks, I take everyone's point and I agree that technically it should be allowed. It isn't something I am going to do as I intend to move as soon as the tennancy ends and I feel that I can handle this woman in other ways...;)

Glad to hear you've put your foot down, and that your deposit looks to be protected.

What did she say when you mentioned "quiet enjoyment"?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • I don't mean to laugh but your landlady is unbelievable!!!! She sounds like a right bloody nutter!

I have seen some things but she takes the biscuit (lets hope she doesn't find the crumbs)!

Bless you.....hope you find a better place and nicer landlord!

She looked genuinly confused, not with the phrase but with the fact that I was clearly annoyed. She just said that she was trying to help us keep our deposit. I actually honestly think that she thinks she is being completely helpful and normal. Not sure if that is more worrying or not!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
