techexpert, thank you for your help.

Answer to your question, I think so.

I have just run Network Setup Wizard on this laptop, saved the settings to a flash drive, run it on desktop B, and called it the default name on both - MSHOME.

Is that what you mean by network name?

Or do you mean the SSID or SSDI or whatever-it-is-name - the name of my wireless network...?

Apologies once again for being dense!

I have just tried, out of interest, to ping my laptop from desktop B - and it worked.

So desktop B can see laptop C, but not the other way around.

Not sure if this is useful or not.

I would run the network setup wizard on PC B and make sure it's added to the network then try the same on the laptop and hopefully you will then be able to see it

Geewhiz, I have run the Network Setup Wizard on my laptop and then desktop B; and then the other way around.

Still nothing in My Network Places, and still unable to ping.

You need the same workgroup name. Right click My Computer/Properties/Computer Name and change workgroup to WORKGROUP, in place of HOME or MSHOME for each pc

In ZA, I've gone into Custom, and ticked Allow Outgoing Ping (ICMP Echo) and also Allow Other Outgoing ICMP but I still cannot ping desktop B.

But then I can't ping it even with ZA shut down, so maybe ZA is not part of the problem?
