Yes, well. £250'000 is more than double my realistic budget. And if that was the average price of a one bed flat around my area then I'd be looking elsewhere.

My budget is probably going to be around the £100'000 mark.

Yeah, I think if it was just me I wouldn't be in London. Not on my wage anyway! But it does make me depressed that I could never afford it alone, I think I need a better paying job! :rotfl:

If you're able to save money and build up a deposit then there are several areas near London which are not nearly as expensive and yet not slums either. Most have decent transport links to London as well.

I myself am within 40 miles from the centre of London.

Edit:// you have a higher salary than me as well ;)

But I love where I live in London, and luckily mu husband has a good paying job so we can afford it. I just feel guilty earning so little compared to him! I want to be able to pay my own way more. :) a bit more security I guess to fall back on.

Anyway still very impressed with people saving/ buying alone. :money:

I feel years and years off my total! 3 years off to be factual! I may be able to borrow 10k off a family member which makes it two. Urg!

How do people cope with the wait?!

    Also - anyone buying alone?

Hey Silver Lining - another saving singleton here. Likewise I feel like I've been saving forever (when I haven't) and realistically I think it'll be 2-3 years til I hit my total too :( which sounds horribly horribly long away and I feel incredibly impatient at times. But then I think back 2-3 years and to all the things I have done in that time and yet how fast it has whooshed by without me really noticing. Plus I come on here - I'm quite new to the forum but I think it has already upped my patience so thanks. I stll religiously check rightmove but then I try to visualise me at 29 with the key in my hand and that helps a bit. Another plus is neither of us is responsible for all the crummy bits that come with owning a house for a while yet! Oh landlord...

You are already much further along than many  Keep praising yourself for that. We'll all get there, just not tomorrow.
[STRIKE]Saving for my first home. Looks like I'll need about 30k...total so far £24810.49. Here goes! [/STRIKE]
Completed on a shared ownership property 24.08.15!

Probably another 2 years for me aswell, although im saving with my partner. Combined we have nearly 70k but we have been saving for many, years!
I have days where I get really down about the long wait, but every day is one day closer!
So glad I joined the forum. Reading everyone's journeys really helps spur me on! :)
  • Thank you everyone :) so nice to know there are others saving for themselves. Amazed how quickly some people have been able to save! Very impressed by us all!!

Aiming at £700 this month which will bring me up-to about £12'369.52 and just under half way to my overall target.

We are at a measley £1,250 of our target, which isn't too bad really considering we have only been debt free for 6 weeks :D I am optimistic we will reach our first target of £3,500 by the end of the year.

We have hit just hit 20% of the deposit, as of this months pay! :T I have created a spreadsheet with a lovely pie chart on... Just have to keep watching the green bit eating the blue! :rotfl:

Have also increased what we are saving by an extra £50 a month. We really need to stop spending frivolously! (We tend to eat out more than we should. :o )
