Finally after 3 years I can finally write a positive post! My BF was made perm in his new job on Monday and we have a 20% deposit, plus plenty extra for fees and decor. Totally thrilled!

Been to see 8 properties (so far) 2 we really liked so we are heading to the mortgage advisor Saturday to get our mortgage in principle. YIPPEE!

For anyone who is just starting saving, it can be disheartening at times but it will all be worth it when you move in to your perfect home.

    Happy saving x

    Hello all :) June update!

My new total is £68,181, so for the first time ever I actually spent more (£77 more) than I earned last month!!!

I know why, though - I booked a holiday for next spring, bit of a blowout but hey. You only live once, and I've had a hectic few months, so needed something to look forward to.

Must get my head down and focus again, or I'll never hit my target! :o

Just my regular amount saved this month! (been topping up on some new work clothes and other clothes this month while all the sales have been on!)

    Good luck everyone!

    Here's my monthly update!

Added my usual amount of £400 to my house deposit savings pot plus £100 to my holiday savings account.

Although we're now starting to think we may skip the holiday this year and put the money towards our house fund instead. Not sure if I want to make this sacrifice yet but it would save us a lot of money as I would need a whole new holiday wardrobe too! Decisions....

I'm still owed some expenses from work so should be able to add a bit more to my savings once that comes in :D

    Enjoy the sunshine everyone!

    Hi Guys

Well, it's been a very long time since I've posted in this thread.

I can remember starting out in 2010 and staring down the barrel of a needing to have a deposit of at least £25k before even thinking about buying.

It's been tough. Renting and trying to save, as well as increasing living costs. I've been through a lot. I've lived through an explosion in rental costs and it got pretty depressing at one point.

Myself and my girlfriend did some pretty drastic stuff. We moved out of the South East and to the Midlands as it's where my girlfriend is from. Cost of living is a lot cheaper. I also got a new job and cut down on my commute.

We've now only just got to £20k. We spoke to an Independent Mortgage Advisor that pointed out to us that we can be in an even stronger and safer position if we go for a 15% deposit.

Our max house budget is £180k - so we're now aiming for £27k.

    Hi All,

thought I'd add myself to this thread :)

We're saving every month £800 (but could and should make economies to save more). We're desperate to get a deposit by the early part of next year so we can expand our little family and live in surroundings that are decorated to our (read, my) preference!

Current total is £4322. So far there's a loose target of £12,000 and we'll probably buy according to what we have saved with a view to moving up the ladder as and when we can. Thankfully house prices here in the North East are still fairly cheap.
    House deposit fund:

Total for June: £5745.44 (57% of 2013 target) (48% of total target)
    Target for December 2013: £10,000
    Total Target: £12,000

Ooh didn't realise this thread was here! Can I please join?

My husband and I live in an expensive area in London (renting), and the house prices are through the roof!

We are saving £750 a month at the moment, but DH should get a perminent job in feb (fingers crossed) with a pay rise, then we should be able to put away a lot more!

Problem is a two bed freehold house goes for over 4 hundred thou! But we don't want to move from the area so will just have to either suck it up or compromise! The area is great though, so family friendly, under 20 mins to London centre, huge green areas- can see why it's so damn expensive but I am a country girl!! Large open spaces should be the norm! I need them!!

So looking at saving £40,000 for deposit (I think we are just under a 1/4 of the way), plus the stamp duty and fees! seems a long way off! :(

Long time no update, kinda forgot, but I am finally there (my target was £15k with £10k gift to add on top) and have had an offer accepted. Now the stress of chasing solicitors but exciting too :D

I cannot achieve 15% unless I save until I'm almost 40 so I'm sticking at 10% and keeping some back for furniture etc.

    Good luck everyone!
