Hi everyone
Well Friday is D Day for me! I finally get the keys to my 1st home on my own!!
I would just like to thank everyone for the support and motivation to save for the deposit this thread has helped me keep on track towards my deposit goal.
My one piece of advice to anyone moving for the first time - make sure you have money in your deposit fund to furnish your place! I have had money put aside BUT I never realised how all the little bits add up so far for me £3.5K and counting!!

Congratulations! It's a great feeling! We got our keys on Friday and spent the weekend doing a few odd jobs. It's such an amazing house we are very happy and was well worth the 8 or so years saving!0 -

Hello everybody!
Congratulations for the new home owners! Must be a fantastic feeling! It is hard work to save, but in the end I am sure you are the happiest! I am new to this forum so I would like to kindly ask you all if there is someone here saving for / bought a shared ownership property. That is what we are saving for and would love to learn some more about it! Thanks a lot!! Keep up the good work guys! You are fantastic!Balance recognizes that many good things in life are good only in moderation. Hi TSSF, Welcome to the thread!
Can't help on the side of SO properties, but if you do an advanced search on the forum, you will find plenty of discussions about them that might be of use.

Hi all,
I've been lurking around these forums for a while now and very impressed with some of the savings totals on here, well done guys!
I've been saving towards a deposit for my first home since I started my first 'proper job' post-uni about 18 months ago, but OH and I have decided 2013 is the year when we get serious, so I thought I would start posting here to keep me motivated!
We've agreed to save a set amount of £400 per month each (so £800 pm total). My job is part commision based though so on good months I will contribute more (got to keep hitting those sales targets!). If we stick to this target each month we should have our target amount of £25,000 by Feb/March 2014!
We're looking to buy a 3 bed semi, which in the area we want to live will cost around £200k so we're aiming to save a £20k deposit (10%) plus £5k for fees, stamp duty etc. We're hoping to start a family (I'm 26, OH is 30) in a few years time so we'd quickly outgrow a 2 bed so we decided we're better off buying somewhere that we can live in for 5-10 years rather than splash out on moving expenses again in a couple of years!
Soooo our savings totals at present are as follows:
Me: £6442
OH: ~£9000 (I will get the exact total from him when he returns from business trip this weekend)
Total: approx £15,442 so 62% of the way!
Sorry for the long rambling first post, I'll try and keep them shorter in future0 -
Hi
I also want to start seriously saving for a deposit to buy a house. We have two children and rent in London at very high prices! I'm 3 years away from 40 and my aim is to own somewhere by that age. My ideal would be a three-bedroomed house, but that would be at least £300k. On our salaries we could get a mortgage of around £230k which could get us a two bed flat. I just want to get on the ladder now and with rents rising we soon will be priced out of teh rental market.
We have seen deals for 5% mortgages so our aim is to save 11500 for the deposit and a bit more for fees etc, so we are looking at around £15,000.
At the moment with out high rent and over outgoings (including some debt) I am only able to save £50 a month which is not going to get us there very quickly! However my husband is in sales so our plan is to put any lump sums of commission away too.
Writing this I feel embarrassed as it seems like a hopeless but I'm going to try anyway. My biggest dream is to own our own home.
So far I have saved £300.
Congratulations to those who have recently bought their own homes. Your stories give me hope!! Any advice welcome!!0 -

I know this perhaps isn't the right thread, but your weight loss is outstanding! I'm desperately trying to lose a similar amount so do you have any advice?
