  • I think you're so right that weight loss and saving money go together somehow!! I've noticed this is my own life. There are times when I am really disciplined and can not eat junk/spend and other times when I think 'life's too short' and end up over-indulging in food or spending.

Relatively decent effort this month, I'm "banking" £800 despite having gone on a short holiday. Takes my total to 8.5k.
    :www: Progress Report :www:
    Offer accepted: £107'000
    Deposit: £23'000
    Mortgage approved for: £84'000
    Exchanged: 2/3/16
    :T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T
  • Payday today. We are now into positive amounts added to the savings this year, after borrowing some savings for our ski holiday (which was great btw).

And if any of you newbies think this savings malarky seems easy as we are going on a SKIING holiday, I'd just like to defend myself. Hubby and I live in a tiny flat and we have an antique tv (one of those big ones) and we don't get out much! :rotfl:

28/08/2010 Started saving for a house deposit
    25/04/2014 Completed with a £67k deposit
    10/05/2014 1st Overpayment made
    10/07/2016 Remortgage complete
  • Monthly update for me, nothing spectacular put away, also planning on booking a holiday this month.

Still going in the right direction though, so all is good!

As Beckythemadcow has suggested above - you can still have treats, like holidays, if you are frugal in other areas, just a matter of priorities!

Glad to find this thread, hopefully will keep me motivated to keep saving! I am only 21 but lucky enough to be receiving a 9000 grant from a university to complete teacher training with them (on top of normal student finance) so am hoping to save as much of this as possible and save on top of this to buy a house at the end of 2014. I will be looking at a 2 or run down 3 bed which in our area are about 100k (lucky us I know). Hoping to save 15k altogether, using about 10k for the deposit and then the extra five for fees and renovations as ill probably go for something that needs a bit of work. Luckily my dad has renovated several houses in the past so will have his help.

My goal also includes securing a teaching job around a year from now, as this will be the salary the mortgage is based on. So lots ahead of me!

Just hit the £3000 mark, which if I save my full grant would give me 12k so far. May seem close but I am a full time student and currently earn around 5-700 a month in a part time job so takes me a little while to save any real money! I need to save as much as possible before September, as I will start full time teacher training and will have to give up my part time job then. So hoping this thread will keep me on track!

Hello all and welcome to the newbie savers joining the thread!

My OH's pay day today and there is opportunity to scrape a little off the top of that into the savings pot (though not much as we live off his salary and save mine).

We are crawling ever closer to that total and we've now begun to register with estate agents and collect paperwork ready for mortgage application etc - its all starting to get VERY exciting!

My advice to the new savers is just to keep going. Put something away each month and keep a clear goal in your head to help bat away temptation. I can't believe we are so close to the end now and it seems time has flown, we've saved loads and yet we've still done fun stuff and had a holiday or two..

    Happy saving!

I know this perhaps isn't the right thread, but your weight loss is outstanding! I'm desperately trying to lose a similar amount so do you have any advice? I believe weight loss and money saving go hand in hand but I always seem to find an extra few pounds to spend on chocolate!

Thank you! :o Having a goal in mind definitely helps but when I started I almost wanted to cry at having to lose so much! When I started I would put money aside for every pound that I lost - I wasn't thinking about moving then so that money would go towards new clothes. I try not to carry change around with me since it means I'm less likely to pop into Tesco on the way home, and I focus on my deposit goal. I want to be slim with a place of my own, not eating junk and being stuck here! :)
  • Hey so managed to save £570 this month which brings the total to £4130. I am waiting to hear back from a new job within the next month which is paying a lot better than where I am working at the minute. If I get it I should be able to save a lot more. So only £5870 to go before that £10,000 goal :)
    Mortgage - £99,000 (Septmber 2018)
    Halifax Credit Card - £1500 (Septmber 2018)

    Hi all,

Hope I'm not too late with joining in! I've looked through most of this thread and am overly inspired by the amazing saving you guys have done!

My partner and I are looking to buy our first house - were renting at the moment and decided we wanted something more permanent and something to call our own!

Savings wise- my partner has been saving ridiculously most of his life so he has a nice amount already stashed away. Me - well I'm quite new to the savings side of things so am currently trying to save between £200 -£300 a month. I'm currently on £3,600 in my savings and am aiming to hit £5000 towards our deposit hopefully by June 2013.

Ideally i would like to save more but my job at the moment isn't fantastic pay - although i do receive a bonus every 3 months (which is going straight into the deposit fund/car fund) hopefully i can hit my target by June and then some!

Congratulations all who have hit their targets or are close! You are a great inspiration to me and have given me hope that i too can hit my target!!
