  • I have just found this thread and wanted to say good luck to everyone. We have been saving to buy a house for about 3 years and have finally got to the point where we have a 15% deposit, in fact with the house we have just found and hopefully going to put an offer in after we have seen the house for the 3rd time this weekend (and made sure in theory the attic is big enough to convert) we should have 20% deposit as it’s a bit below our budget. It took a long time and in theory we should prob save for longer to get a bigger house but we got engaged a few months ago and I think we are both ready to get on without lives. With a smaller house we will have more money to save for the wedding and reduce the risk when interest rates increase etc. We can over pay on the mortgage too.

    Any way its just to say you get there eventually, for some it may take longer than others but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

    It's great to hear some good news stories from people who have actually achieved their deposit goals - well done.

    Congrats on your engagement too.

  • Hi All

    A little update from me as its pay day. Was hoping to put £1000 in to my savings a month now but only managed £650 as I had so much to pay for - new car battery/new passport/fees to set up limited company.
    Bit down about it but will try and do the £10 per day challenge and hopefully put more away next month

    Happy saving all x

    Aim - BUYING A HOUSE :eek: by November 2013!
    Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j
  • 15% yeah, but better to wait for the bottom of the bear market in property.
    Will not see bottom until interest rates correct to more normal levels and all the repossessions have been cleared out.
    Imagine if China started paying housing benefit the same as the UK. Half a billion people would move from the slums in tin can huts to all these new apartments they are building every year. Property prices would double from where they are now.

    Jan has been hard for us aswell. We've realised we can save more than we anticipated (our minds are so focused on saving we're finding it hard to even touch the money we budgeted for clothes, going out and meals out...we just want to own a home!) so we've done OK next month but we're hoping to do much better next month. Paydays can't come quickly enough!
